Introduce yourself and which salon if any you work at…

Hi, My name is Carin Charles and I am the Owner of Carin’s Hair studio at Coxwell and Danforth in Toronto.

How long have you worked as a licensed cosmetologist and where did you study?

I have worked as a licensed stylist since 2002. I completed my studies at Marca College of Hair and Esthetics.

What is your specialty, relaxed, natural hair, locs or anything special?

My experience at Marca in the multicultural program has given me the skills and passion for all hair styling plus custom cuts, color and weaving are some of my favorite.

What in your opinion is the most rewarding thing about working as a hair stylist?

I love to see my clients leave happy and feeling brand new when I complete their hair services.

When you meet that customer that has not had a great experience with a previous stylist, how do you make them comfortable while in your chair?

I communicate with them and reassure them they will be leaving happy. I build a rapport and walk them through the process step by step.

If you could change one thing about the cosmetology industry what would that be?

I would not separate the different parts of the beauty industry. I believe make-up artistry and other parts of the industry are important to the holistic outcome.

Where do you see yourself a few years from now, what are your goals as a stylist?

After accomplishing my goal of owning my own salon. I would like to become a platform artist and be featured on television.

How do you stay motivated and on top of your game?

I am passionate about what I do and have always wanted to be a stylist. My long standing relationships with my clientele serve as the extra push I need.
