I’m sure you have read numerous blog posts telling you tips about growing natural hair and how to care for it. Like you, I have also investigated, read and watched hundreds of growth tips for natural hair.
One of the things I have learned along the way especially from all of my favorite natural hair gurus like Naptural85, Mahoganyknots, and Fusionofcultures is that there is ‘a growing phase’.
Let me explain, with everything in life we go through growing phases, we start off learning everything we can about our hair, then there is the in-between phases which are great for preparing for the results we so desire. The issue I have found is that a lot of us try to get through each phase as fast as we can without enjoying the process.
So what is my #ONE TIP after rushing through my own ‘growing phases’ for new naturals? Appreciate your hair and love it!
It is true that when you love something you treat it better. Isn’t the natural movement about loving and accepting yourself as a beautiful creation? If you have a TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) don’t only rock it, but enjoy rocking it!
So many of us don’t appreciate our hair throughout all the phases and become upset that our hair is not as long as we want it to be.
I have always dreamed of natural hair that is longer than my own and so don’t think I have not struggled with this myself because I have.
For me personally I have wished for bra-strap length hair, but I found that watching other people’s success stories was not going to get me what I wanted.
I didn’t stop listening to natural tips and tricks. I believe listening to advice is good, but the advice does not on its own cause a person to become motivated. The motivation should always go back to focusing on healthy hair practices and loving every phase of your journey.
I think this struggle is where we should all begin. So for 2016 I’ve got a new tip for you, find joy where you are now and appreciate your hair every step of the way.
Wear your hair loud and proud for 2016 regardless of the phase you are in and in no time you will be at your goal wondering where all the time has gone.
