If cramping arms is not enough to deter you from going natural, maybe the financial requirements needed to maintain natural hair will. You will need an arsenal of hair products to keep your natural hair looking good. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on gels, oils* and hair conditioners, among other products.
Many people jump into the bandwagon of natural hair without carefully considering how their new natural hair regimen will affect their lifestyles. The financial and time investment is not a luxury everyone can afford.
My friend could cope with the financial aspect but realised her busy schedule could not accommodate hours of detangling and deep conditioning*. She wanted something neat and simple, like running a comb through her hair twice before rushing to work.
The bottom line is, natural hair is not for everyone. Erykah Badu always has a team of hair stylists at her beck and call. That is why her natural hair is always on point. You clearly don’t, so leave natural hair to those who can manage and actually look good with natural hair.
Charming isn’t it? I suppose this could be a teaching moment for Roxanne and all the other women caught up with just the aesthetic of natural hair. I wont pretend that the beauty of natural hair, its versatility and styles aren’t important to us.
Those things are very important and we show them off daily, however wearing your natural hair is a little deeper than surface level.
It is about accepting everything about yourself from the very strands that come out of your head as part of who you are as a black woman.
You see Roxanne even though you and I might like a little synthetic hair every now and again to add to a style or protect our actual Crown and Glory, at the end of the day you still have to take that off. At the end of the day you will have to face the real you. (Maybe for you that’s every 8 weeks or so depending on the quality of the hair, but you know what I mean.)
If you feel as if your own natural hair is ugly, you have every right to express that, then we can have a real conversation and show you that natural hair is beautiful because it is your own hair. What you should not do is spit out a personal opinion about yourself on public forum disguised as cute rhetoric. Frankly that is very ‘mean girl’ and you are clearly the one with the problem! There is said it!
