From sew-ins I then decided to try cutting again and the next time I went even shorter – Halle Berry short. I loved it at first, but eventually when it got long enough to catch a braid, I got Senegalese twists. Those twists barely lasted two weeks, before I was tired of them and took them out.
After the twists I then started playing with half wigs. After half wigs* I went back to sew ins religiously for a good 3 years, and didn’t try any other styles. After I graduated college and right before I started my career as a teacher, I cut my hair again, Halle Berry length.
Now, 2 years later I am still changing up my hair, and this time I am all natural. I know that I will stay natural forever, because I have no desire to ever get another relaxer, but I am still changing my styles! I’ve done full sew ins, box braids, crochet twists, crochet havanna twists, my natural hair in a wash and go, and two strand twists. I think I love the versatility of my hair and I didn’t think there was an issue with it until one of my close friends asked me why do I always change up my hair style?
As if changing my hair style was a bad thing. I’m not going to lie, it did rub me the wrong way, and even made me think that maybe I was doing something wrong by changing up my styles so often. Then, I came to an epiphany, which was confirmed by one of my favorite YouTube bloggers, that there is absolutely nothing with changing up your hair style!
For me, changing my hair is liberating. As cheesy as it may sound, I feel like I can conquer the world when I change up my style! It also stems from the fact that for most of my childhood and teenage years, I didn’t have very much freedom with my hair, and what I could do with it. So, I guess you can say that I’ve been making up for lost time.
I wear weaves wigs* and my natural hair hair, with no shame in my game. I love changing it up, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! So cheers to all the girls out there who just like to have fun with their looks, and don’t care about what other people think.
What are your thoughts about experimenting with different styles? Let me know in the comments!
