An hour or two ago, Janelle Monae posted a makeup and weave free selfie on her Instagram page and it was picked up by every major news feed on the gram.
We get it though, for one it isn’t every day we get to see Janelle without her usual signature red lip and glam. And two, she looks absolutely gorgeous and relaxed at the same time which again most of her fans hardly ever get to see.
I have to be honest her picture actually reminded me of the makeup-free “pledge” that some of our celebs have been talking about for Summer ’16. First it was Alicia Keys who attended her first award show after pledging to go makeup free. Then Sanaa Lathan also showed off her natural hair in protest earlier this month vowing to keep things simple this year.

Of course some of her followers could not help but tell her that she needed to get her ends trimmed, which is probably unnecessary. I am sure Janelle has a dope hair stylist on her team which means ends and edges are the least of her worries.

Despite what the opinions are it is great to see Janelle in chill mode and it is obvious that protective styling has been doing wonders for her own hair which means that she has been doing it in a healthy way.

People so jealous! Can’t give a straight compliment without hating on her length. Those aren’t STRANDS…that’s a FULL head of HAIR. You cannot see through it…too THICK! Cut YOUR ends off.

That’s why black women who go to CERTAIN stylists NEVER grow a LONG length because their STYLISTS STAY trimming (CUTTING) their hair. Any NEW growth (inches) from the SCALP is TRIMMED away from the ENDS. Their so called EDGES (officially known as HAIRLINE) is KEPT SPARSE by their HAIRSTYLIST by BRAIDING that is TOO TIGHT and PULLING, done in REPETITION over and over FOR MONTHS at a time, BUT they won’t tell ya’ll this!!! They KEEP taking your MONEY and EVEN THOUGH you done went NATURAL after TWO full YEARS, your NATURAL HAIR STILL DON’T look like this POST. You STILL getting ENDS TRIMMED with NATURAL HAIR that STILL won’t grow PAST YOUR EAR LOBES, BUT your stylist KEEPS chopping OFF your HAIR at the ENDS and TELLING you it’s SO YOUR HAIR CAN GROW long and STRONG but IT DOES’NT. what’s THAT all about? The people telling JANELL to TRIM her ENDS? What does THEIR hair look like? NOT like JANELL’S hair FOR SURE. Smh!
Just remember THOSE of you who had LONG HAIR as a CHILD… You wore PLATS, and TWISTS, PONYTAILS and AFRO PUFFS! You NEVER got your ENDS trimmed in the FIRST and SECOND grades, your momma WASHED your hair, conditioned it and BRAIDED IT UP! She MAY have BLOW DRIED it but MOSTLY AIR DRIED IT with PLAITS or FRENCH BRAIDS for some little girls! My MOTHER NEVER put a SISSOR to my HAIR and it was Down my BACK. Just some royal crown or blue magic grease or BLUE ULTRA SHEEN hair oil, some twists held by hairballs or RUBBER BANDS AND RIBBONS! Ya’ll remember HAIR RIBBONS? My hair WAS JUST LIKE JANELL’S as a child! My momma used to take a bar of soap sometimes and wash my hair, PLAIT it and let it dry just like that!!! NO PERM EVER in my HEAD until I was GROWN and GRADUATED from HIGH SCHOOL and moved out on my own! My HAIR WAS FIERCE! Never a SISSOR. When I DID go to the beauty parlor and my HAIR was finally let down by a stylist I was GROWN and EVERYONE STARED as I got my FIRST ever perm! I was in my TWENTIES by then! HAIR WAS FIERCE! The secret is…DON’T LET OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR HEAD. Simple . As LONG AS I STAYED OUT OF THE SALON??? I had HAIR. As soon as I went to letting folk in MY HEAD? I had HAIR ISSUES. See its a SPIRITUAL thing. You can’t let JEALOUS PEOPLE do your HAIR! If my HAIR IS BEYOND MY BRA STRAP AND FULL and the person who is doing my hair, they can’t naturally grow hair beyond the TOP portion of their ear and they WANT long hair? What do you think is going to happen to your HAIR? Janell keeping EM OUT OF HER HAIR I’m SURE. Haha! Go on ahead Janell! I can TELL, she does her OWN HAIR! You keep on going to the salon and letting them TRIM your HAIR every other month and you will NEVER look like JANELL. There are certain TIMES SEASONALLY that YOU SHOULD NOT cut/trim your hair! But I BET your STYLIST won’t TELL YOU that! Anyway go on ahead Miss Janell you working it! REMINDS ME OF YESTERYEAR! I’m not mad at you!!!
