Christina Milian has been in the news a lot lately, for one she just broke up with her rapper boyfriend lil Wayne and she just dropped somewhat of single with said boyfriend. Just yesterday though she was on the blogs because her little girl Violet was seen taking a picture with Zendaya with what looks like some pretty heavy braids.
We even posted the picture on Urban Gyal’s Facebook page with a caption that made reference to how much hair was added to the childs head.
At the end of the day Christina is 100% responsible for her own little girl and who are we to decide what she should be doing with her own child.
On the flip side when you post your child on social media you open them up to scrutiny and that she got. She posted the above picture with the following caption:
It’s official. I’m a #1 Mom in my daughters eyes! Last night I was fortunate enough to bring my baby girl @VioletMadison to meet Zendaya at the#InauguralWorldAIDSDayBenefit.
You can’t imagine how much it made her day. Plus she got to see how her selflessness, positive attitude and hard work can help inspire and heal the world. Kudos to you#Zendaya & Your sweet parents. You are a great young lady and I’m happy my daughter has someone to look up to like yourself. Thank you. (And she loved V’s hair)
Well as you can imagine the comments rolled in with everything from accusations of child abuse to women saying they had the same hair on their own head and it was very heavy.

For those of you more concerned with Violet’s hair (understandably cause you just don’t know) her hair isn’t in the twists, it’s another method used where they are tied into her corn rows. The hair isn’t heavy. If you’ve ever grabbed a bag of afri braiding hair you know they are very light weight. But just trying new things. Violet likes it and it’s not damaging. Xo

It’s still way too much in my opinion but she says it’s not damaging so eh. Little girls should look like little girls.
Sigh, they make large havana twist shorter for kids so there no reason to have her kid looking her neck hurt. That’s her kid so if she like I love it, though.
Its crocheted into french braids but that doesnt mean its not heavy. I think its too long for her but those are her choices

I guess that’s why that baby looks like she has no neck….just too heavy but the style is pretty when you use hair for kids her age.

I just had the middle size crochet braids and they was VERY heavy in my head also gave my neck pain too had to take them out after a week on top of swimming in them.. Idk what she talking about don’t get me wrong look great but not worth the pain.

I have those twist in my hair I have 7 packs and they are so light If I didn’t have it my self I would assume they were heavy but the really aren’t.

I don’t know why some people are talking as if some people just want to say negative stuff because the kid is a celebrity’s kid. Why can’t you accept the fact that the hair-do is not age appropriate. I’ve had twists like that too. Long to my back and mind u, my neck hurt. I had to start piling it on top of my head in a bun so as to try and reduce the strain in my neck.

What bothers me is that she felt the need to put that much fake hair on her babies head. What is she teaching her about loving her own hair? I think most people were bothered by that. Not that she is a celebrity kid but the reasoning for doing her hair like that in the first place. It just seems unreasonable. Obviously our opinions don’t matter. When it comes to black kids and self image this reaks a mother who teaching her child to value something we have been fighting against in our struggle for self acceptance. It’s just bad.

Parents musnt give a child everything she wants. My little sis is 5 and she always wants to wear make up to school. And i always tell her its not time for that. When she’ll be 16, i wont have a prob with that. If the kid wanted artificial hair, theres no big deal. But there are looks for kids her age. Why all that cargo on her head. It doesn’t look cool. This is crochet. The hair is very light. My daughter wears same style (no colors) but same length, she is eleven. I don’t see what the big deal is? It is a protective style. Maybe the miseducation is the issue? Looks can be deceiving
Just because its crochet doesn’t mean that it’s light. Her little head must be heavy. My head is heavy right now with crochet medium braids. And like how does she sleep comfortably…lol I’m having these issues but she’ll learn what she likes and dislikes.
Maybe the twists are a little to big for this baby’s head. But I wouldn’t call her a bad mom for doing it. Maybe the girl wanted her hair done like everybody else’s. This is a very popular style now. As far as loving your own hair, you can love your hair and still add weave, extensions, whatever to it. everyone that knows about natural hair knows this is a protective style anyway. its only a big issue because she’s famous.

Sure a pack of braid hair feels light in our hand. Several packs feel light in our hand. But once it is on our head, it feels heavy. Extra ounces added make a difference to your neck, which already has a heavy burden of a skull and brain to support and carry everywhere all the time.
