Step 6: Style your hair for success

Lots of us probably take styling for granted but how you wear your hair most of the time is probably the single most important determinant in how long your hair will eventually become. Excess manipulation will be the death of your long hair dreams.

Now this may not be what you want to hear but leaving your hair alone to do it’s thing is how you get it to grow long. Not ifs or buts. You may be feeling pumped up with your recently started hair journey and you probably want nothing more than to to have your hands in your hair right now pampering it and watching it grow but really, leave it alone!

For us black women, the easiest way to be able to care for our hair while still being able to give it all the good things it needs like protein and moisture is with a braided protective style.

No promises on the packaging of hair growth oils* or other black hair products can beat the retention power of a simple protective hairstyle! Scroll through the gallery below to discover the differences between low manipulation and protective styles as well as examples and tips on how to care for your hair while rocking these styles.
