I want to get rid of my scalp condition but I don’t like any of the shampoos and conditioners traditionally used for dandruff treatment. What else can I do?
There are tons of all natural treatments that get rid of dandruff; the most popular being tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar*.
Tea tree oil* kills the bacteria on your scalp that causes the overproduction of skin cells which causes the flakiness attributed to dandruff; it also anti-inflammatory properties that control itching, it is a natural germicide/antiseptic so it kills germs, and unclogs sebum from hair follicles.
You can apply tea tree* oil directly to your scalp with a cotton ball or you can mix it with a carrier oil like almond oil* and rub it through your hair. For best results, leave it on overnight and then wash with shampoo and conditioner.
Apple cider vinegar* has some of the same properties; it will rid your scalp of fungus, bacteria, and other dandruff-causing germs. It will also clean out clogged pores and restore a healthy pH level in your hair and scalp.
You can do a warm ACV hair rinse or you can mix two parts of ACV with one part of water in a spray bottle and spritz it on your scalp before you wash your hair.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of dandruff or, at the very least, keep it at bay?
To keep dandruff from coming back, you need to maintain a hair regimen that incorporates property hygiene, scalp cleansing, proper moisturizing, and regular rinses to unclog pores and kill bacteria.
To keep your regimen simple, try adding in regular dandruff treatment to things you already do. For an example, add a few drops of tea tree oil* in your moisturizer or keep a jar of apple cider vinegar mixed with water and essential oil in your shower to use on wash days.
