I remember back in the nineties in high school, I would rock the hec out of a banana clip. At my school we could only wear certain colors with our uniform so I had a blue, brown and black one that I would interchange on any day of the school week.
Banana clips spread the hair along your head making your hair appear longer and fuller while wearing it, which was pretty much the coolest thing about it.
The good thing is that banana clips never really went out of style, you can still find them and the beauty supply store in a variety of colors depending on your taste.
I really liked what Sharterrka03 on YouTube did with her banana clip updo.I wouldn’t quite call it a long term protective style because you would definitely have to remove the clip if you are a wild sleeper, it can snag the hair under pressure, but it definitely works as a protective style for the day.
This style would give a more textured feel if you are rocking an old twist out, braid out or wash and go. But it’s also a great way of rocking your unadulterated natural texture without having to do too much to it. Just moisturize and style!-
Updo’s are great when you are not quite ready to wash your hair again but want to do something creative. Before you watch the video here are couple other ways you can use your banana clip.
1. A massive bun – The clip spreads your hair in a manner that allows you to tuck the hair around the clip creating the illusion of a thick luscious bun. Great for those with shorter or lower density hair.
2. A mohawk – The banana clip is a great start to a cool Mohawk if you know what you are doing. If you get the bulk of your hair angled correctly with the clip all you have to do is match the rest of your hair creating a sleek Mohawk
Ok now watch the video!
