Uh ooh, Alicia Keys, done started something now! A few weeks ago Alicia Keys wrote an open letter explaining why she doesn’t want to wear makeup anymore, and it seems as if other celebs are following suit.
Read a snip of what Alicia said below:
We all get to a point in our lives (especially girls) where we try to be perfect.
Does it start somewhere in second grade after picture day when you wear your frizzy hair out ’cause your mama says it’s beautiful but all your “friends” laugh at you?
You grab the brush and gel and pull your beautiful big hair back into the tightest ponytail you possibly can to contain your unique hair in a bun — hiding a piece of who you are in order to fit into a picture of what others seem to see as perfection.
Then she goes on to talk about her music and how it inspired her to walk away from makeup altogether. She even attended her last award show without even a drop of makeup on and she looked awesome. At the end of the essay she said:
I hope to God it’s a revolution.
‘Cause I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.
This brings us to Sanaa Lathan, who has been stunting for the ‘gram, makeup and weave free, she recently posted this video:
Sanaa got a ton of support from her followers who were all here for it, letting her know that they also want to make changes to their own lives:
It looks beautiful I’m trying to get enough courage to start locking my natural hair I’m tired of the weaves and wigs* and stuff like that and I’m using a new product and it seems to be someone working I just what you wish it work quicker but I like the natural look and happy for you.
We are here for it!

Annie Fofanah says
When you are near flawless without makeup, it would be pretty easy to do. Try doing that with acne etc.
Tawny Joseph says
Or crapped up hair. Or hair you don’t know how to properly care. ????????????
Annie Fofanah says
Lol some days I’m like “Annie just cut it all off, why are you a slave to the creamy crack” lol
Tawny Joseph says
Same. Every time I try to take care of my hair I’m like, naaaah. Should probably just shave it all off. ????
Sharell Beaulieu says
My hair is long , past my shoulder blades, but I would still wear a weave and braids just for the convenience of not having to comb my hair
Tawny Joseph says
Sharell Beaulieu Ikr!? Protective hairstyles are just easier. Especially with how fast time flies these days..
Neisha Lee says
Who cares
Sivon Lockhart says
Congratulations but…. so! I’m really tired of these things that try to divide women; weave vs. no weave, relaxed vs. natural, makeup vs. no makeup. Who cares! Do YOU!
LaShon L. Earl says
Exactly… I agree with you…people base a person’s worth on hair and a lot of bulls**t that don’t matter. Like who gives a f**k if you where weave or don’t wear weave….that’s why so many in the industry be over dosing on drugs
Lonnese M. Bodison says
I don’t believe that is what is being conveyed here. it is not about division. It’s about appreciating that we don’t need anything extra to be beautiful. Some people think they need makeup or certain hair, that’s all.
Sivon Lockhart says
I see what you’re saying but if that’s the case then why mention it at all? I mean why make a big deal about it.
Tina Waters says
Probably because every where young girls look it’s bundles and beat faces. It’s just to let them know that they are and can be beautiful without all of that. It almost seems as if weave and beat faces is the norm.
Tee Cee says
It wasn’t trying to divide anyone.
Belinda Ballenger says
Not a good idea
Connyi Mothogoane Mogwane says

Tammie Faulkner Taylor says

Stacie Hart says
Good for her
Deneene Brown says
Good for her, I’m my own trend setter. I do what’s best for me at 52. Thank you, but no thank you. My own foot prints in the sand
Tonya Johnson says
Agree Deneene! I don’t see why this would be a “trend”. We all should do what’s best for us, individually….
Michelle Gause says
You got that right! i’m 53 years young and I learned when I turned 40 to stop people pleasing. Do what you want to do because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter nobody of real substance will care. I love makeup and there are days where I’m full-on with it and days where my face is bare..I’m comfortable in my own skin regardless.
Sarah Spencer says
She didn’t need either one. Natural beauty like every woman.
Darlene G. Scott says
Good for her! Let your natural beauty shine!
Betsy Fernandez says
She looks the same without makeup! Little girls need to see more natural beauty..love it
Pamela Porter says
She’s a natural beauty! Being so beautiful, I wonder if she’s always known that? (Haven’t read article in case she answered the question)
Tina Waters says
I came to see if she got dragged the way Alisha Keys did when she joined and spoke on the no makeup movement. So far ppl haven’t been as harsh on her. I guess people like her more.
Eventually I’m sure most ppl get tired of the stress weaves have on their hair and makeup has on their skin. Naomi Campbell can speak on that. It’s not worth it and it doesn’t change who you really are.
Sanaa Roper says
Sanaa Nathan❓????
Philicia Bailey says
Who’s Sanaa Nathan????
Renetta Thomas says
She’s beautiful without it. To me she looks better bare
Frednette Claytor says
Ok that’s good but women should do what they want to do DO YOU, if you want to wear makeup weave nails so what you have your own mind you don’t have to follow after who does what. Ladies do what ever make you feel good look good SMH.
Nehemiah Jefferson says

Tee Cee says
The cry babies on here are making me laugh. If you want to be natural be natural and stop stressing anyone else’s opinion. If you want make up and weave or no make up and perm or relaxer and make up, Do you!
Jessica Ely says
Exactly. It’s her choice. Like why people have an opinion about her decision. She wear to much people have. She decided to be all natural people have a problem. Yet they don’t see any of their flaws.
Ten'e Martin says
Ha.
