So we all are familiar with Marley twists, right? Just about every natural or almost every natural has rocked them at least once in her journey, including myself! But, I always wondered how they would look rocked on our hair sans extensions.
Well I was in luck because, yup you guessed it, I found a hair tutorial showing just that: Marley twists done without extensions. Below, YouTuber Melissa Denise shows us how she achieves her Marley twists sans extensions*!
Items Used To Achieve This Hairstyle
Moisturizer- In this tutorial, Melissa Denise uses Shea Moisture* Coconut* and Hibiscus* Smoothie but you can use any hair moisturizer that you fancy.
Gel – In the tutorial, Melissa Denise uses Eco Styler* Gel (the kind that was used was not stated) but you can use any gel that you would prefer. Some ladies also use curl activator gel for extra moisture.
Rubber bands (optional)– To keep the twists from unraveling. Melissa Denise have a hair texture that may not be able to hold twists for a long period of time, which is why rubber bands are used. For those of us who have hair textures that can hold twists for a long period of time, rubber bands may not be needed.
Sidenote: If you do use rubber bands, make sure to lubricate them with oil. This can help reduce any possible breakage from occurring.
Length Needed To Achieve This Style This style works on any hair length that can be twisted. Of course, without adding in extensions*, then length of your “Marley twists” is all based on how long or short your hair is.
In the video, Melissa Denise’s hair was stretched and 100% dry before beginning the Marley twists. You can stretch your hair through a variety of ways, whether it is through banding, braids or bantu knots.

Looks simple enough … When I get a few more inches I might try this out

It looks amazing and great video. Love the style. Wish I could do that except you need long and super thick high density hair like hers. Which I have armpit length and very fine hair medium density. Therefore I know my hair won’t even come close to looking like that unfortunately

Can’t wait to do this on my hair!

I just did Marley twists using yarn and I crochet them in without the knot. They came out just fabulous!!!

Hmmmm…. so basically it’s the same as the twists your mom used to do on you as a kid…. but now we are calling them “no extention Marley twists”…. right. Very pretty none the less
