Arianne Robinson says
Just go head and perm ya whole head. S**t.
Connie Sherice Mills says
I personally wouldn’t do this but to each it’s own
Shawnte Blyss Barr says
I know to each his own let people be who they are
Tara Smith says
No. The reason I say no because I don’t need relaxer to lay down my edges. My texture with gel alone does that.
Blaque Diamondz says
Bingo, lay the gel down and set it with a scarf!
Tara Smith says
That too….but I don’t have to do that because of texture.
Tara Smith says
Meaning use a scarf 🙂
Missy Territa says
Me as Well eco gel is all I need
Tara Smith says
Yep. That’s all we need is a lil control that will tame the uncontrolled…
Tina Waters says
I say no and my edges won’t lay down. I’m happy with my hair because I’m happy with me and it’s apart of me.
Why would I try to disguise what I am. That would be like being natural but wearing a weave 365 days of the year.
You can’t hide from yourself and you can’t be anyone else.
Nicole Caldwell says
But for other people that have hair that won’t lay down with just gel…
Sharon Strambler says
That’s all you need.
Phoenix McGee says
I ain’t knocking it. My edges work my nerves but if I perm them I won’t have any.
Kia Wright says
Lol
Phoenix McGee says
Lol I try my best to keep the little bit I have, greasing and praying and everything
Jamilah Rasheed says
It works I perm my edges ever time get a sew in and I still have hair
Phoenix McGee says
Cool beans, perms take my hair out though. I’ve compensated by becoming a beast with some flat irons lol
Prudence Renee says
What’s the point
Maya Woodall says
Hiding your africaness
Kamila Nott says
Y can’t we embrace our hair. It’s so sad to go to that extreme
Tina Waters says
I agree. My edges don’t lay down so i don’t force them. I work with what I have. #lovingme
NeeCee Simmons says
I perm my edges and I love myself!!!
Rhonda Monique Nash says
Chemicals aren’t healthy for your hair..period…I thought this was one of the reasons why we have gone natural, but I guess appearance overides that
Althea Patterson says
Erm. . Why?
Tricey Monae says
Nope. you can get slick edges with some good quality edge control & A silk wrap around the edges to help lay them. Thats doing nothing but weaken ur edges.. which is already fragile. I’ll pass.
Blanche Copeland says
Yaaaassssss!
Dabney Ross Jones says
Or you can just accept your hair as it is and do the best with what you got. This is just….
Tricey Monae says
Exactly! The edges and nape (back of ur head) Are the most fragile part.. And looking at her edges before she permed them they looked horrible and fried. Jus wish more women would love their hair. A little love goes a long way.
Davida Walton says
Hey! What is a silk wrap?
Tricey Monae says
A silk scarf. Similar material to a bonnet. Helps protect your hair and edges. Cotton takes moisture out.
Camille Renee Edwards says
That never worked for hair like mine ! It prob her last option
Tricey Monae says
To each its own. Everything won’t work for everyone and i love learning/hearing what other people do. But maintaining healthy hair at the same time
Valerie An says
Those products don’t work for everyone! It’s her hair, she can do as she pleases! Why do pple feel the need to put others down because of how they choose to wear their hair….it’s ridiculous that women do this to each other
Valerie An says
Funny cus no one is judging women for loosing weight or telling them to love their fat as it is….just because a women chooses not to be natural doesn’t mean they don’t love themselves or their hair.
Tricey Monae says
^ That’s what I just said. Opinions are natural but id never go as far as to downgrade a woman because of a choice she makes. cause at the end of the day she lives with the results and hey if that works for her then more power to her. I wish us women would be more supportive and at least offer tips instead of being nasty..
Tricey Monae says
Lol I’m natural and fat I’m not happy about the fat part but I accept who I am. I totally feel where you’re coming from
Tara Roy says
If someone is going to damage their hair a straightener or hot comb would suffice..it’s much less damage ijs && you can buy heat protection
Tricey Monae says
^ True.. Plenty of them to choose from
Marsee Hunter says
Haven’t we see enough edgeless photos. Wisdom is not as diversified as it should be.
Sharon Strambler says
Well said!
Lola Rose says
maybe for type 3 textures and 4a, but 4b and 4c are hard to lay down.
Khaleezah Bint-Yahya says
When I was relaxed I only did my roots ..I guess that’s almost the same … it seems so silly to me now
Iyasha Love says
When your has been previously relaxed you are only suppose to retouch your roots and never overlap your previously relaxed hair. At least that’s the way you should relax your hair if you are going to use a relaxer… But in her case she is relaxing her edges because she is not satisfied with the look.
Terri Moore says
Why just why…
Monae Stayindown says
Edge control. Does it meant 4 natural. No need for permed edges
Natasha Thomas says
Hell no, not touching that creamy crack. If I want to smooth out my edges I’ll get the gel.
Tika Hambrick says
So what happens when the relaxer grow out? Do you perm it again or walk around with 2 textures? hmmmmm
Adiryah Yisrael Barak says
Right when she rinse its all gonna rinse through her entire hair that’s so #%#%#
ShaRhonda Antionette says
Lmbo…
That’s my thought exactly…
#Silly_Rabbit…
Tina Waters says
Ikr. How do you care for two different hair types on one head. Perm hair products for the permed hair and natural products for natural hair. Crazy.
Doubt she’s going to have edges for long.
Shevel Thomas says
Perm it again
Elle Anna says
My point exactly soon she’s gonna be fully relaxed
LaTonya Smith says
Well I’m not sure what to say. I just deal with whatever my hair does, but too each is own
Joanna Mariee says
yikes didnt think of this…. thanks ladies..
Realz ByNature says
Oh dont worry it will fall out waaaay sooner then itll grow out, that wont ever be the problem!
Katrina James says
Why not just go ahead and perm your entire head?
Niesha-Nike Edwards says
I can only see people who weave partial weaves doing this. Otherwise, I don’t see the point. That’s what gel and edge control are for. And might I add that chime Edwards on YouTube did this successfully but it’s not for everyone
Erica Williams says
Wasn’t she transitioning while she did that?!
Niesha-Nike Edwards says
yeah she was, but i’m saying its not unheard of.
Kimberly Yarbrough Brown says
I wouldn’t do this what is the point? so are you natural or semi-natural???
Tina Waters says
That’s the million dollar question!
Cori Wilson says
What difference does it make?
Kimberly Yarbrough Brown says
Not saying it does make a difference, but it does pose the question…. jmt
Brittany Kelly says
They are no longer natural because the hair has been taken through a physical change chemically. The existing texture is essentially only being “relaxed” but the hair is still “organic” because nothing about the chemical compound of the hair is changed. The hair is no longer virgin.
Marianela Arroyo says
Nope, no thanks. It’s just not for me.
Tiesha Marie Boyd says
Can some of yall reply to this what yall put on your edges cause I have tried dang near everything…and nothing is working
Keo Peo says
Edges by Hicks
Jasmine Self says
I use Eco styling gel (green one) and water….it works for me
Amorette Stanfield says
Kera Care has one. One by Curls also
Alecia Handley Daniel says
Gorilla Snot Gel, edge control then brush and tie down with a scarf for about 15 mins.
Nella B Badd says
Gorilla snot is at Walmart for $3 order it from Walmart.com too if u can
Alecia Handley Daniel says
The gorilla Snot Gel is at Target for about $3, the edge control is everywhere (target, wally world, sally, walgreens, ulta, etc….)
One more tip, it helps to spray a little water on your edges prior to applying the gel and edge control.
Tiesha Marie Boyd says
Oh ok I’ll definitely go get some makes me want to relax my hair lol Alecia Handley Daniel ….thanks to everyone else also really do appreciate it Amorette Stanfield, Jasmine Self, Keo Peo
Nicole Nicci Nic says
Perm
Elise Cromwell says
I use isabella’s own, got it from a beautician, but i hate slick edges most of the time so I use it for other purposes
A L Gabryelle Langevin says
shea butter.
Kait Rob says
Shea butter works well on my edges as well
Carolyn Gilbert says
Nothing have worked for my edges. Soon as I go outside, the weather curls my hair up regardless of edge control, gorilla snot, or a scarf. Maybe this perking the edges may work. Stay tuned….
Trinette Mitchell says
I have seriously thought about it.
Lyric Marie says
No because once those edges grow out that hair is considered relaxed. . Can’t be both at the same time
Aketo Umat says
read the box before putting a relaxer/texturizer/perm on your skin. Read the box…it’s a sign of INTELLIGENCE.
La Toya Taylor says
Heck no!My hair is natural and healthy but my edges are thin so it wouldn’t help smh.
Briana Thomas says
Seems like a good idea, sometimes gel or edge control doesn’t work for everybody nobody how good it is.
Jamila Kelly says
Thank you ! I guess we all must have the same hair texture and can just use gel and wraps to press our edges down perfectly 😐 I don’t think this is a good idea, but I’m glad someone finally said that edge control stuff doesn’t work in everybody !
Elise Cromwell says
I think its a good idea for ppl who continuously wear straight weave and are already damaging there edges by straightening them evrday
Tiesha Marie Boyd says
Gel and most edge controls don’t work for my hair I’ve tried every type of jam..smh
Lonique Renee Brooklyn Ryan says
True, either when wearing weaves or just a slick ponytail, those gel could not hold my hair down when it was natural
Kebeh Fallah says
I tried 10 different edge control on my natural hair and nothing works, I did perm my edges once , and it’s not a bad idea at all,
Tina Waters says
Why do your edges have to lay down at all? If it’s that serious just perm your whole head.
Another solution is to work on you and why you can’t accept your hair type for what it is.
Briana Thomas says
A lot if people like slick edges, so why not. And its not always about what you don’t accept some people just don’t have the time to deal with it.
Lakeycha Oncloudnine Holmes says
Edge control don’t work for everyone. I have used all kind & nothing works . Thought about perking my edges but still unsure
Natasha Newman says
I haven’t permed my edges, but I am having a HECK of a time, nothing works on my edges, the only time it’s straight is when I get a blow out , then it will last 2 weeks. Everybody’s hair is diffrent, and I’m not saying I would do it…………………but I understand. # whatever makes you happy!
Pheadra Pic says
Mix gel with some moisturizer, it works.
Kamela M Oxner says
Yes. That edge control cakes up in your hair especially if hair is thick.
Olivia C. Jenkins says
Yes sometimes my edges won’t cooperate when I’m trying to wear a sleek top knot or something
Joanna Mariee says
So many girls here saying the same thing. I too have issues with gels and edge control not working on my hair… so other than relax ur edges, what options do we have?! Anybody know what else works?! I have thinned and damaged my edges with experimenting to keep them slick!!
Peetigaye Brown says
i relax mine and i love it its laid and blends well with my weave edge contro doesnt work neither does gel
Acinomel McLeod says
My edges lay pretty well when I wrap my hair overnight. Organic Root Stimulator hair pudding is great for natural hair. Well at least on mine. I use all ORS products and it definitely makes my hair more manageable.
Mimi Janvier says
People can do what they want with their hair…
Sandra Bee says
Seriously if we going have an uproar over relaxed edges then we need to get our priorities straight lol….
Jeaneen Alise says
Nope
Tianedra Bea Little says
Damn do it old school get that black gel a brush and a scarf and call it a damn day
Sareta Fontaine says
LMAO “call it a damn day”
Amber Anderson says
Sadly that doesn’t work in all cases. Maybe she should use “gorilla snot” I heard it was good
Alexis Symone Robinson says
Literally, that’s me right now. I’ve got black gel & a headscarf on as we speak.
Trayce Davis says
He’ll naw…why not just pullout the scissors now?!
Karen Jones says
What’s the point?
Just Kathy says
Probably. My edges ain’t loyal
Trinette Mitchell says
You don’t do the entire head because you like the kinky but not the nappy and too tight roots.
Dabney Ross Jones says
Once again, that’s the dumbest thing i have EVER seen.
Dorothy Ibe says
Foolishness!
Tina Banks says
I don’t see the big deal who cares if u relax ur edges everyone is diff!
Sandra Yancy-Smith says
NO, GREAT WAY FOR PERMANENT HAIR LOSS.
Janise Johnson says
Then your not natural lol
Hrh Beatrice K Thompson says
No no for me
Coa Luck-Spicy says
pointless. lol these girls do the most.
La Toya Taylor says
She coulda used hair milk by just for me for straight edges cause that definitely works.
Alisha Peele says
what is a good edge control besides olive oil and creme of nature? the creme of nature that one makes a yucky goo on my hair and turns white…
Keo Peo says
Edges by Hicks if you get the buildup try using less or a faster remedy is oil sheen
Missy Territa says
Slick it or try using edge wax
Nella B Badd says
Murray’s edge wax <$5 gorrilla snot gel $3 works as good as Hicks which can be $13-$15... Murray's doesn't leave as much residue as Hicks. if your have 4a/b/c hair u recommend a scarf with any of those
Alisha Peele says
I have a relaxer but i wear sew ins…i need something to keep the edges good..i have bought gorilla snot before its too messy…
Stephanie Gibson says
Don’t do it. Over perming and the need for straighter edges is why my edges are damaged now.
Ashley Chanel says
I DO ONCE R TWICE A YEAR..MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Tish S Griffin says
= bald edged
Telena Tarrent-El says
What is the point of being natural if you perm your edges
Jewel Terrell says
I was just thinking that.
Starlan Hoke says
What up with these children
Margie Richburg-Clayborn says
Exactly!!!
Brittany Elyse says
Seems like as it grows out it will all be relaxed again anyway…it will be two textures. ???
Shevel Thomas says
So you can easily blend your weaves
Leah Oubre says
Thanks She’ll. I was perplexed.
Telena Tarrent-El says
so….why go natural at all? just wondering, I dont care enough to judge
リン ケルシ一 says
My edges were hard to blend with my weaves until after the 1st natural year after that i can use anything and they lay down, tough it out
Whisheika Chissell says
Exactly? Umm contradiction much? I’m natural with a little relaxed. Smh.
Telena Tarrent-El says
Right…there are ways to blend your edges without resorting to perming them….you just have to learn how to care for your hair type
Maureen McLeod says
It makes no sense to me.
NeeCee Simmons says
It makes sense to me that’s why I do.
Ashley Nikole says
How are you natural but perm your edges? Eventually your natural hair will grow out so new growth will be permed so it’s impossible
Telena Tarrent-El says
you’re not natural if you perm your edges lolz…its an oxymoron….Edge control + scarf over night= tamed edges
Astar Herndon says
Totally agree and what are you going to do when the perms grows out?
Sheena Campbell says
How is your hair in it’s natural state with a perm?
Eve Ankh says
ugh no.
Jamillah Clark says
You don’t need a chemical to do that…just get some gel or edge control do it with product.
Nella B Badd says
Read those ingredients tho some edge controls have harsh ingredients
Jamillah Clark says
True im just suggesting.. I use gel only thing that works for me..
Jamillah Clark says
Can’t be any more harsh than a chemical…
Tameka J. Abram says
It’s your head!!! Do what ever you want to suit your lifestyle. Natural isn’t for everyone, relaxed isn’t for everyone… Do You Boo❤️
Dazzle Stars says
Exactly
Keesha Marie says
I use to do this years ago only
in the summer to control Humidity
Blanche Copeland says
What’s the use of going natural if your going to perm you edges……. SMH. GET SOME EDGES CONTROL SNICKERS THE BABIES DOWN AT NIGHT THE A SCARF ABOUT IT AND WHOOOOLA IN THE MORNING SMOOOOOOTH EDGES. HA IT WORKS FOR ME!
Monique Cleaves says
That has to be the stupidest thing I’ve heard!
Karen Adedokun says
No I wouldn’t. What’s the point of saying you’re natural when you’re not.
Shetwokool Km says
Exactly! I don’t get it
Neeqie Andersdananderen says
Edges laid to the gawds
Lachelle Lala Francis says
Lool Hell naw .. If I want to lay down my edges I just use gel or Edge Control … foh with that creamy shit …lol
Cassie Gardner says
Just because one relaxes their hair doesn’t mean they don’t accept theirselves or their trying to be another culture. That’s ignorant. I don’t like my hair in its natural state for too long. It’s too thick and I like variety. My hair is healthy and I relax every 10-14 weeks. Some Naturalists seem to always put down those who don’t want to be natural and some relaxed chicks seem to the same. Cut that crap out. It’s not warranted. This woman wants to relax th edges, oh well. It’s her head. Somebody need to throw some advice her way as to how she can maintain her desired look
Darnitia Spearman says
I agree. It doesn’t matter if your hair is relaxed or natural we all usually have the same goal in mind and that is to have healthy hair.
Nakita Moore says
I agree totally
Chrystal MizMookey Faulkner says
Amen I’m natural right now but hey I may get bored with it does that make me a bad person???
Nicole Renee says
The article asks “would you?” So the writer wants readers’ opinions as to whether or not they would relax their edges. It’s not about knocking anyone for their preference of natural vs relaxed.
Lonique Renee Brooklyn Ryan says
Thank you!
Tina Waters says
We don’t know what look she desires. If most think like me, I thought she wore her hair in its natural state (no weave) but didn’t want her edges to be natural so they would appear straight.
If she’s just putting weave in it anyway it doesn’t even matter.
That being said, if she’s wearing her natural hair (out) she needs to accept herself for who she is and her hair is apart of who she is.
Monique McGruder says
I have permed my edges before. I am horrible at doing hair and gel only curls my hair even more. Sometime i want my edegs to lay down the entire day without the humidity curling them up. I wear afros ponytails mohawks but i also wear extensions, weaves and braids. My hair is on my head and we can do what the hell we want. If they dont like it, find an ass to kiss
Shemeke L Reyes says
Thankyou for saying this because it’s really sick that people are worried about natural hair and unnatural hair get a life, when pressing comb in the jar came out we were knocking down the door now all of a sudden someone said go natural and it’s the new thing.
Sheena Mullins says
I am relaxed and my daughter is natural but I totally agree with you the movement is to give power in the beauty in hair whether it is natural or relaxed if you are confident in yourself that is all that should matter
Sagittarius Felisha says
Totally agree…..
Contessa Marteel says
Yasssssssssss!
Lakeba Johnson says
NO!
Latesha Pierce says
When I first decided to go natural, after about a year, I decided to try this as I was so use to bone straight edges assuming that it could only be acquired by relaxing. I tried it once and NEVER again!! All it does is damage your ends just as it did to the rest of your hair. So now you have a full head of natural full thick beautiful hair with broke off edges…nope!! My advice is edge control, if you need it. P.S I LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR, without relaxers!
Tashone Black says
No you don’t need that just train them because eventually you will not be natural soon. So she is really Tex-laxing
Marla Maples Simmons says
Why do people automatically assume that straightening your hair is not embracing your hair. Do you arch your eye brows or shave your arm pits…no one would ever say that you don’t fully love yourself because you choose to groom yourself. I’ve been natural and I went back to a perm strictly for convenience not because I’m trying to emulate anyone else and defiantly not because I don’t live myself or my hair …stop with the foolishness
Alisha Willingham says
Well most ppl who get relaxers say they NEED them so that’s kind of the problem. I hear too often folks walking around with 1 inch of growth complaining that they NEED a touch up. What’s one inch of new growth? I loved playing with my new growth when I was relaxing
Simone Satrice says
1 inch of new growth is a huge problem for someone who gets relaxers . i NEED them .
Lonique Renee Brooklyn Ryan says
Thank you!
Tina Waters says
Straightening your hair isn’t the issue. Ppl who perm sometimes have beautiful/healthy hair and aren’t trying to be anything but themselves. This woman is different. She wants to be natural EXCEPT for her edges. Which implies she’s hiding behind the illusion that her hair is something that it isn’t.
I wear locs and I’ve seen ppl with locs perm their edges. It’s not good for them because permed hair can’t be handled/treated like natural hair. Usually they end up with no edges.
Black women already have fragile edges and we should try to keep them healthy.
Marla Maples Simmons says
What’s the difference between perming just your edges or going out and buying hair gel or edge control? It’s still manipulating the natural texture of your hair ….just because I prefer my edges slick versus curly or kinky still doesn’t mean that I don’t embrace or love my hair or my edges…I feel everyone should do what’s best for them in their life and stop “shaming” “labeling” and trying to interpret someone else’s actions or intentions
Rhonda Lett-Miller says
Blahahahahaha!! Dead on girl!! Hey enhancement is enhancement!! Thanks for the laugh, and truth!
Whitney Naturale Burrison says
Well put…..so dead on lol.
Jessica Dani Durden says
I tried the natural ordeal and it was a fail! My hair was hard to manage… So I relaxed it and chopped it off and rock my short relaxed style! Makes my life easier and my hair is healthier… Moral of the story do what works for YOU!
Chevy Genous says
Did you really ask what’s the difference between putting gel in your hair and a perm?? Oh lawd…..smh.
Capri Zuri says
I’m sorry but putting a chemical in my hair every time I grow an inch of hair seems like way too much work for me.
Have any of you watched Chris Rock’s ‘Good Hair’? If not you should, it’s very informative about what relaxers actually do to your hair. Black women do not necessarily have weak edges, relaxers are what cause the damage.
Veronica Abdul-Kareem says
You are so right. And anyone who has a problem with someone else doing it to their hair OR saying they don’t embrace their hair is dang foolish. People can do what the hell they want to to their hair. Let folks be and stop ridiculing folks! We have way too many freaking problems to be worried about who is perming their edges!!!!!!
Mieshel Jett says
Wow…never heard of relaxing your edges with locs! Lol
Ashley Jean says
Thank you Marla! I’m so glad you said this. I’m natural at the moment I’ve been natural three times now and I might go back to relaxers due to convenience (but that’s another story). Anywho what makes me chuckle is “die hard” natural with a full face on…like really??? Don’t preach about not loving yourself but put the ENTIRE makeup counter on your face ijs…nothing is wrong with makeup or getting groomed etc. but don’t knock the other girl because she wants to be natural full-time, part-time, or not at all. I loved the “natural movement” in the beginning because it helped women embrace their natural hair and eventually see themselves as beautiful without all the fake additions. However now it’s too much judging and haughtiness if you’re not natural the way others think you should be.
Myeia Reid says
ive done it, no big deal
Yazmyne Bright says
I personally don’t like gel I use good ol h2o and conditioner and my edges are wonderful
Nesha Winter says
just use bees wax or jam
Renea Walker says
I say no it’s no longer natural when you do that
Missy Territa says
What’s gone happen that hair is going to start breaking cause of the two textures
Veda Brown Phillips says
What?!? Why?!?
Raven Hill says
All you need is gel and a good brush.
Jessica Marie says
I will never be apart of the creamy Crack gang again. 2 yrs strong.
Nikki Phillips says
Uhhh no….totally defeats the purpose of being natural
Kayla Bolton says
I’m not that bent on having “laid” edges that badly. I mean yea my edges work the last nerve I have but I’d rather have stubborn ones than none. O_o
Ericka Butler says
and then when it grows out ya hair is what? natural permed natural permed natural permed
Ericka Butler says
ctfu plus relaxed hair breaks off regardless so that means your hair will be breakin off everywhere unevenly no thanx
Misty B. Fox says
My daughter and myself do this it works for us ! But we don’t claim to be all natural either …it makes our hair look neat and that’s important to me at least . As long As there’s no hair loss I don’t see anything wrong with doing what works for you
Rí Ribeiro says
Me too! I use a texturizer though and looks good. I never wear my hair out unless it’s straight. I won’t do my whole head because I like my hair super thick!
Peetigaye Brown says
agreed i need my weave to blend so i relax my edges and leave out and its not shorter nor is it breaking off
Darrione Dangerfield says
Totally agree ladies! I am a regular relaxer but lately I haven’t relaxed my whole head just my edges and the nape..
Kortney Renee says
What the hell
Adiryah Yisrael Barak says
Why do we need our edges to lay down our creator didn’t have straight hair so why is straight so important to us,our hair is curly we come from the hottest region on earth mother Africa, there’s been too many of us who still not comfortable with our hair because of what the world says its call culture conditioning be like white. We can’t change our gens so love yourself and your hair, please don’t put that unregulated unmonitored creamy crack crap on your hair. Its beautiful the way it is make it healthy and fall in love with it Shalom.
Adiryah Yisrael Barak says
But our black ansestors came from Africa
Nairi Lawton says
right! some people is just brain washed and mentally sick
Peetigaye Brown says
no i just like my hair neat
Adiryah Yisrael Barak says
Me to it’s as neat as it’s gonna be
Tiffany Marie Banks says
So…umm..what about the back???
Melanie Rucker says
I don’t even know why I am entertaining this. If you relax your edges, and keep relaxing, then at some point your whole head will be relaxed. WTF??? This is stupid, just go relax your hair. If you can’t be comfortable with your texture and stop trying to force it to be bone straight, then your purpose for going natural isn’t like some others. Some folks hair is straight even natural, and some have a harder time to lay it down, its just hair, its nice either way
Serita DirtyRedd Stanley says
If ANY part of ur hair is chemically treated it is NOT natural
Terro Sanders-Pittman says
NO
Anna Ogonji Smith says
I wouldn’t personally. That would defeat the purpose of being chemical free. I know many people become natural for different reasons, but wouldn’t this mean you’re semi natural? I never experienced real problems with my edges that water or gel couldn’t handle, so I could see why she’s do it kind of. To each their own.
Sapphira Hayward says
Nope! My hair was falling out. Even with only texurizers. As soon as I stopped getting those and perms my hair has never fallen out since.
Brittany Robinson says
Lol
Markisha Tingle says
A lot of stars do this its nothing new
Jamie Elaine Reed-Anderson says
Just use gel…..
Shetwokool Km says
#TeamNatural
Quaniee Harrison says
No
Jay Vanterpool says
No that will damage your hair after a time
Lëëlëë BrewsEdwards says
Ppl saying it stupid but they’ll use gel becus perm weakens their edges… yall stupid. Gel weakens and breaks edges as well. Int a thing wrong with what she’s doing. We all have different techniques. Do what suits you.
Pamela Smith says
Huh? Why? What? In? The? Hell??
Aaliyah Ingram-Jones says
Then it’s not natural hair…am I wrong? Idk.
Tyeast Pettit says
Why do you need slick edges in the first place?
Bjana Henshaw says
I think its a great idea, and am thinking about doing it as well. I hate using gel, its flaky and it makes your hair gunky. Also gel doesn’t make it stay long especially in the spring and summer months.
Christina Reid says
Tell me what style she is trying to achieve that requires bone straight edges and natural ends
Renee Collins says
Me too, so confused! The texture of the hair is going to be so different! You either relax the complete hair or gel it. She need to watch youtube. I’ve seen women do some amazing things to their NATURAL hair.
Olivia C. Jenkins says
Maybe she wears weaves ? And wants it to blend better underneath. That’s what I’m thinking
Katricia Thomas says
Nooooo
Adiryah Yisrael Barak says
Everyone has different textures of hair so products work well and some not, just know most things will not last Long on that over curly tight texture hair NOTHING will not last long.
Don’t be natural if you don’t want curly edges
Jocelyn Martin says
So she is not natural then! Might as well perm her whole head because eventually that’s what is going to happen every time she has new growth.
Deborah Bogie says
No I’m not that worried about laying down my edges. It’s the most sensitive part of my hair
Cheryl Kirksey-Newsom says
Stupid stupidity!!!!
Deanna RideOrdie Kennedy says
That seems backwards smh she keep it up she will have none
Briana Rhèun Johnson says
I used to get good old black gel & a hard bristle brush & tie a scarf on real good. lol
Danny Fenton says
At this point if anyone wanna spend time worrying about if my edges lay or not, go ahead. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Jovana Jovanovic says
Not for me, but what’s for some isn’t for everyone. I rather keep it all natural.
La Donna Stancliffe-Deans says
Errmmm isn’t that defeating the reason for being natural ? Doesn’t make any sense
Layemi Morgan says
You’re not really natural anymore
Iyasha Love says
She might as well perm her whole head
Racheal Bradley says
If you can’t handle natural hair and ALL of its glory, just stop pretending and wear straight hair.
Sharon Strambler says
Thank you.
Kimberly Hill says
Blah blah blah
Debbie McGhee says
Yes , so do my edges . With some gel I’m good.
Jenne' Richardson says
Edges gonna be gone! I would know, I tried it. Took a year for them to get back right
Sheena McClain says
No…just a thought why not flat iron it then put gel on it since u want it straight….I wouldn’t perm it…
Djenaba Hernton says
Seems pretty pointless…
Nefeteria Moore says
I do this because constantly trying to manipulate them only causes way too much breakage. Either you want them natural or smooth.
Bjana Henshaw says
You all are so quick to judge and throw this “natural” term around but some of you are walking around with dyed hair, that’s not natural and flat ironing your hair is not wearing it “natural” either!
Carmen Hampton says
And wearing weave is NOT natural either…but it seems to be the growing trend of naturals.
Bjana Henshaw says
Yes, I agree smh
Charlene Cha LaBranche says
Who cares if she’s still natural or not it’s not a bad idea but idk if I would do it lol
Amanda Thorpe says
I like edges with…’character’ lol I’d never relax mines. But to each their own its her hair she can do what she wants
Melissa Yvette Richie says
But doesn’t that hair grow out and no longer considered natural? I don’t understand.
Faith Abbey says
Ahahaha! This is a late April fools post right?!
Nicole Ghatt says
No way!!!!!!!
Charlene Cha LaBranche says
And honestly gel and other stuff don’t always work on everyone’s hair especially long lasting throughout the day
Tasha HairIam Bryant says
I know someone that has dreads and relaxes her halo..the perimeter of her head
Lynn Mitchell says
If your going to perm any parts of your hair, please wash it out with neutralizing shampoo at least 5 times.
Rachelle Lawson Norwood says
Nope…perms cause fibroid tumors. No more chemicals for me..loving my edges just the way they are:)
Nella B Badd says
1. Murray’s edge wax <$5 EBay (keeps texture) 2. Hicks pomade Amazon $13-$15 (straightens, best with towel dried edges and scarf.) 3. Gorrilla Snot Gel $3 Walmart (use with scarf look for different color bottles for different hold)
Shanetta LaNae Portis says
Nope defeats the purpose of being natural
FeeDnthateme Brown says
If I don’t perm my edges ️an use gel it curl up im over that lol then wen I get blow out with no perm it stay straight then the edges get thick ️an worse case break off if I don’t return to the salon ️an get it blow dried straight then flat ironed idk
Jodestynetiah AngellEyez Marceille says
Hmmmmmmmmm…. I understand why she does it because at this moment I’m irritated with my edges. But me personally I don’t think I wanna alter my curl pattern anymore so I’d just use edge control
Jah'natural Govens says
Crazy… Nooo never
Rodriguez Sleepyeyes Ana says
Sooo what happens when your hair grows
Aleiaha Brown says
Who cares!!! UGH let that women be great smh
FeeDnthateme Brown says
My hair breaks if I don’t straighten it
Rachelle Lawson Norwood says
And even if you perm your edges over and over again won’t they eventually become your ends? So you. Still end up with permed hair. But to each their own
Monique Swygert Goode says
No
Elicia Singleton says
I just don’t get it
Korie Smith says
I guess my question to my sistas is , why are we obssessed with our edges??? I mean, I’ve been delivert, but why? We will pull and relax, and edge control them until we are bald. I don’t understand
Prettybrowneyez Jones says
Ur hair should lay with some gel or edge control…mines do but hey its her hair
Latisha Monique Griffin says
Nope. All I need is water and Eco gel
Shelica Kennedy Jackson says
No
Beatrice Oscar-Chong says
Hmmm, she hasn’t fully embraced being natural yet if she still wants smooth “creamy crack” edges
Kimberly Dixon says
Why not use edge control or just flat iron the edges
Kashmere Noel says
Surely if you keep relaxing your edges you’re eventually going to end up with the entire length of your perimeter as relaxed? That’s just gonna look stupid :/
Faye Gavin says
Whatever she wants to do with her hair is her personal preference. Everything doesn’t work for everyone. If you put perm in your hair, you’re not natural, if you dye your hair, your not natural. I say do what feels natural to you!!! Live life and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Essence Blackwood says
Natural isn’t for everyone…. either be natural or not….
Jessany Maldonado says
Ehh not for me. I don’t want my hairline receding
Niolani D Brown says
Hey to each there own shoot, me and my edges at a constant battle, they never want to lay down. But because of chemo therapy I can no longer perm my hair, but I would perm my edges if I could. I’m a person that like various hairstyles.
Crystal J. Cager says
Depends on the hair . It’s easy for people to criticize her if u got soft edges that will cooperate. Maybe she has too much trouble with her edges. My stylist relaxes my edges and the front of my hair when we do a sew in so that it’s easier for me to style……everything ain’t about being ashamed. I’m very comfortable with my hair. A relaxer just makes it easier to work with……
Mia Lunn Holder says
I haven’t done this, but have heard of others doing it. I’m natural but I choose to wear wigs out of pure convenience and I struggle with laying my edges down for a substantial amount of time. I’ve tried MANY different edge controls and as soon as moisture in the air hits em they are back curly, which makes it hard to
Blend of I choose to wear a straight textured hair. So I see why some women have chosen to do this, I’m just not sure about the long term effects it may have on your edges.
Lisa Agate says
I don’t get the obsession some women have with so called laid edges
Gina Didier Chong-You says
Just asking but doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
Sable Porter Wilkerson says
Might as well perm the whole head not just 1/3 of it
Dawanna Banford says
Work with what God blessed you with….I don’t use anything….
Ashley Taylor says
She should have pulled just her edges out like I did for you. She is relaxing more than edges.
Kelly Hamilton says
#icant
Donna Brown says
No. My grey edges have a mind of their own. No need in fighting it.
Kesha Keysha Keisha says
That’s asinine
Nydia Bourne says
Hell no
Bruce N Erica Hagood-Coker says
Ewwww no
Tina Isom Royal says
Yes.. I have relaxed my edges during the hot humid summer.. It gets extremely hot and humid in Arkansas. However, I will not do it anymore.. I’ve learned how to wear my hair that doesn’t require my edges to lay down..
Alisha Willingham says
Gel/edge control be having my edges on fleek tho lol
Janissa Bido says
That’s actually a good idea since the edges have a mind of their own hmm but I can’t say that I dare.
I’ll be scared that I’ll end up with no edges
Chasity Hood Holland says
What’s the point??
Ricketta Savage says
Everyone do what you please, but I think that’s dumb just for smooth edges smh ok
Dawn Allen says
That’s why there is edge control
Lateshe M Williams-Mosley says
I don’t get it
Pamela Miller says
When I first went natural, my edges irritated me because they were so short, but now they have grown out and mostly blend in with the rest of my hair. As for me, I don’t need it, but I’m not knocking it either.
Shaketta Shannel Singleton says
Nope. This will lead to breakage over time because of the texture differences.
Partial relaxers are never a good idea.
In my professional opinion.
Other professionals my disagree but it’s not good.
Always leads to breakage.
Kathleen Robinson-Hamm says
Why?
Chanelle Coleman says
I’d say no… If the perm makes ur hair break off at the edge, what exactly do u have left??
Kendra Walker says
Well I say no cause that’s what spritz are for ..
Mickoel La Mudanza Russell says
I do this
TaWanda Jones says
These naturalistas crack me tf up! They claim “natural” so hard but they doing this, or flat ironing or finding some insane technique to make their hair straight. Make yall mf mind up
TaWanda Jones says
They be straight blowing me
Lisa Simmons says
Nope you got a relaxer. Natural means no chemicals at all
Alisha Ranae says
ᴵ ᴷᴺᴼᵂ. ᴵ ᵂᴬˢ ᴸᴵᴷᴱ ᵀᴴᴬᵀ’ˢ ᴴᴬᴵᴿ ᴺᴼᵂ ᴳᴵᴿᴸ
Roslyn Jackson says
It’s 2015 and we’re still debate on natural or relaxer :/ I’m a stylist, and I relax only my edges to have a neater style- my hair is healthy and I love it! So kudos to her
Karla Christopher says
Doesn’t matter what year it is. Natural is just that. If you’re going natural with your hair than do it. I’m a hair stylist too. To me it defeats the purpose. But, To each its own.
Mickoel La Mudanza Russell says
I don’t like putting products on my hair everyday . My hair doesn’t fair well it black hair products it’s either to greasy, light, or smells. I am from the islands my hair isn’t typical black hair
Dionne Jackson says
But as your hair begins to grow out, your edges are no longer edges. You’ll slow have straight hair because the relaxed part is becoming the longer part of your hair. Does that make sense?
Nicole Marie Gilliard says
Kinda defeats the purpose of being natural but to each his or her own…. I’ll pasd though. No more creamy crack for me!
Jessica L Sterling says
Why??
Lakisha L. Williams says
No, but to each her own.
Bettii Jones says
No cause relaxed edges= sensitive edges= no edges no more
Cylinda Shenise says
I tried it once, didn’t last somehow my edges completely reverted a few weeks later. But i put literally a tiny bit on. I’ve learned to work with my edges naturally. Ecostyler and a scarf works. It won’t be bone straight, but that’s the price you pay for being natural.
Kimbo Jones says
Personally no because I’m scared my hair will not do what I want and I always twist my hair so I’m really not concerned with my edges but do what you do
Chevy Genous says
NO
Sandra Hall Aldophe says
It defeats being natural….
Dede Lovejazz says
No I wouldn’t. No relaxers for me ever again!!!
Rebecca Belle says
Pointless ass opinions from hair nazis
Chevy Genous says
Ummmm how is it pointless when the caption on the article asks would you do this??? They are answering the question….smh.
Rebecca Belle says
exactly would you do this not drag the chick for what shes doing to her hair theres the difference
Lisa T Monroe says
Nope…just buy edge control….
Tamra Mitchell says
No
Sharica Walker says
Ha I was thinking bout doing this lol
Melissa Juanita says
Seriously? Lol!
Simone Satrice says
if it works it works . everybody doesnt have the same grade of hair . if i waa to go natural ever again id continue to perm my edges every 10 weeks or so . my hair is really thick & i love it but i like edges str8 . gel & a scarf doesn’t do it for everybody.
LaShaun Whichard says
For all of you saying that edges will lay down with good quality gel ect that’s not true. I have invested in tons of gel, butter, and edge control. Nothing lays down my hair. I personally won’t perm my edges, I’ve just accepted the fact that they absolutely will not lay down.
Trina Trowell says
Ppl been doing this forever. Smfh
Barbara Funnye says
Nooooooooo
Rosalind BA says
NO! I wouldn’t do it, but she can do whatever she likes…
Barbara Rene says
Natural with permed edges.. That’s her choice.. If it works n no hair loss. Great idea
Dorothy Gordon says
Yes, yes, yes.
Margie Richburg-Clayborn says
That would be a negative !!!
JoyShayla LeeDell White says
What?!?
Onylde Agostinho says
What’s the point with having two textures??? You either relax or stay natural…..
Tina Waters says
Hell No! Why??
You’re either natural or you’re not. If you’re too uncomfortable with the texture of your hair maybe you should just stick with your perm.
How do you maintain processed and natural hair on the same head?
Cherea Faith Imani Simpson says
What’s the actual point
Tiger Lilly says
Why not perm it all then? At least it will all be one texture. She doin too much…lol
A'zhe Gholston says
It defeats the purpose of being natural!!
Alexis Butler says
I literally just did this last night. The reason being because when I wear sew ins, my leave out and edges won’t stay straight and flat ironing them every single day is annoying. So I’m getting another sew in and to make it easier on myself I relaxed my edges and my leave out
Nisha Hill says
No no no no….
Tsehai Lewis says
Hicks Transformational edge gel WORKS!
Shayanna Marshall says
I did it once and regret it so i grew it back out and cut it
Natural Love says
It looks nice but I am not be willing to put that toxic garbage on my head.. anyway how can a 4c lady achieve the same results w/o having to permanently alter ones hair?
Alisa Danielle McKoy says
Im natural and I relax only my edges. Im natural straight.. and guess what?! I love it. Each person is different. There is no set in stone way to take care of your own hair… Some people’s edges are a little too much to handle so they relax them every few months. The relaxer is not put on the rest of the hair… and guess what.. when I wash my hair… all the natural hair curls up and goes POOF just like anyone elses that’s natural. To each his own… arent we allowed to be individuals? Some of the comments I see are just plain ignorant.
LaShonda Coleman-Dailey says
Speak the truth! It’s so sad the way some women go about it in a very negative, and judgmental way.
Chantel Marie says
Well doesn’t that defeat the purpose. #smh
Antoinette Cole says
Can’t be natural with permed edges!
C.k. Hampton says
Exactly!!
Takesha Lasondra Hornsby says
You are no longer natural when you put chemicals on any part of your hair it still effects the other hair. Natural means no chemicals to your hair at all. Chemicals will seap into your scalp if you use them to longer. Our race has to many issues with health scares stop attacking your own bodies with disease you’re killing yourselves.
Nilah Smith Jones says
Call me lazy, but that just seems like too much work.
Lonique Renee Brooklyn Ryan says
Yes to have layed edges
genese says
Im so confused…why do you need to perm your edges when you hair is natural? What are bad edges vs. good edges? i thought you were natural because you were embracing your hair’s texture and ability…again, really confused.
Mari Chan says
that defeats the whole purpose of being natural! embrace the naps! lbs
Cleopatra Jones Best says
To each its own.
Jasmine ServesthetrueGod Mays says
Nope.
Jasmine ServesthetrueGod Mays says
I’ve seen it and then seen some bald edges in a few months with Afro in the back. Smh. Leave that crap alone all together.
India Simone Jenkins says
Wtf then perm again when Ya New growth come the perm grows up meaning eventually all your would of been permed again
La'Too Carefree says
Shiddd sleek edges? Aloe Vera gel
Tamara Douglas-Osbourne says
And if she over processes her hair its dropping from the root.
Kendra Boston-Hill says
To each its own…but no
Natosha Carter says
Why bother
Briana Thomas says
What is a good non flaky sorta healthy gel to use . I need help lbs
Lashonda Grant says
You’re NOT natural if you’re relaxed in any way period
Love Starr says
Huh?!?
MsWhite Hiddenheels Ellis says
Before i knew there was a natural hair community (8yrs ago), this is how I (unknowingly) transitioned….edges still in tact
Hannah Okorafor says
I get the idea, but eventually her whole head will be relaxed. If that’s what she wants cool. It’s an interesting way to relax your hair though…
Dione Berry says
No!!!!!!
Dee Shreve-Nastasi says
No…it defeats the purpose.
Del Nia Evans says
She’s not natural then is she?
Ni-Ni Patterson says
Kmslol! So many of y’all either didn’t know how to properly relax your own hair or had an inexperienced person relaxing your hair before you saw ‘Good Hair’ and went natural. Relaxed hair does not equal short and brittle, broke off thin hair, and little to no edges. This hair division is ridiculous and needs to stop.
Shantel Tweet Ivey says
Everybody want slick edges. Embrace your naps.
Ni-Ni Patterson says
This is not new, but because this natural trend is in full effect and is probably here to stay this time, folks are up in arms over it now.
Cora Milton says
No because you will eventually have two textures the relaxer grows out, you retouch it, you gradually just go from natural to relaxed hair
Christy H Ms'Chris says
Just get some edge control. Smh
Shareefah Bailey says
Yes I would my edges are very unruly
Steph Monty says
Do what you like. My concern is for black women edges are the first to go and relaxer doesn’t help
Asheba Brown says
Your hair is permed. Man now blurred lines because perms are struggling.I don’t trust it
Dvine Lovin says
no but eventually she will have long strands of permed hair which may cause breakage w/the 2 textures..
Marlita Stylindiva Kinmon says
Relaxed or natural, your choice. However, she is definitely not a professional stylist because her technique was improper. You are NOT suppose to comb through a relaxer! Basing the scalp is always necessary, it is not about whether you burn easily or not, it’s about the chemicals penetrating the skin. Just educate yourself on proper procedures!
Avita Cunnikin says
?????Ok so what do u do when it grow out?????? Keep perming it till your whole head is straightened?
Grabiella Lucas says
Nah…
Shajovan Hall says
Over time this will cause breakage and drying because of how the hair is constantly being manipulated in the same place plus you’re not natural if you have a relaxer period.
Dana ItGirl Jeanmarie says
People can do what ever makes them happy, but if your edges are relaxed, you’re not natural.
Ashley Alexandria says
Why can’t people just do what they want? If her edges fall out its not going to change what comes out your head? Some natural women are as bad as the damn Beyhive, taking stuff way too serious.
Nykia Watchoosay Smith says
Kind of feel like this is a yes or no thing I’m just seeing a lot of opinion bashing going on. But yep id do it gel doesn’t stay in my hair lol for all of 5 mins its straight
Kali Mahogany Price says
I relax the edges of my hair because I wear a weave with minimal leave out but it’s once every 3 months..
Amber Dorsainvil says
Ummmm….she realizes that if it doesn’t break off, her “edges” will gradually become her hair shaft, right?! Eventually the length will all be permed…smh
Tashie Githiaka says
If I’m gonna have relaxed edges I’m gonna relax errthang lol not even gonna tempt myself like that
Toyla Thomas says
Naw
Cannot Tell says
Smh
Micole Spicer says
I wouldn’t. I have had a relaxer for years and I grew it out. No more relaxers for me. I love my natural hair.
Carla Kennard Sexton says
I will never understand edges. ..
Kali Mahogany Price says
Ok as a hair stylist after watching this I am in awh of the technical errors in this process of relaxing her edges. Natural or not she is overlapping the relaxer that she is a applying to her new growth with the hair she has previously relaxed. This video is for opinions only and I would say if she was to continue to do this becasue I do as well know the difference between the edges of your hair(the small amount of hair on your hairline closest to your forehead and the entire front hairline. Which she is relaxing
K Chelle McClora says
Its not really natural if she is relaxing but whatever works for her…
Jammie Jam McClora says
Exactly….like get real…you want straight edges but coily hair…please have several
Ronnii S. Ervin says
No I wouldn’t do it.. I love my afro and edge control works for me
Vedejah Scroggins says
If it works for you yeah go for it. My own personal experience is permed hair conflicts with natural hair on my head it’s been a year since my last perm and my permed ends are still splitting and breaking because I’m trying to grow it all out before it cut it off. That’s just my own experience and why I wouldn’t do it. You gotta always do what’s best for your own hair if it works for her then great.
Ladii Royal says
Why would anyone do that
Lamishia Brown says
TO EACH OWN
Robbie Hendricks says
I need help!!
Tia Tolliver says
I’m glad this works for her. And if she considers herself Natural then she is natural by her definition. I wouldn’t do it personally but girl lay them edges like you want to!
Zita Vigier says
thought about it but nope just wrap hair up tight at night
Denne'y Blackston says
Being natural has a different definition for everybody. Someone may not consider me to be natural because I hair. ..ijs
Selena Day says
I personally wouldn’t but if that is what she likes then hey
Rhonda Lett-Miller says
Hair training is all that’s needed, but to each her own. I love my edges looking nice!!
Meka Spencer says
I have in the past about 9-10 years ago but no I wouldn’t lol
April Ward-Scales says
No…Not something I would do.
Lilian Adesheila says
Defeats the whole purpose of going natural. But to each it’s own. Smh.
Khristina Knight says
But when her edges grow out she will have permed edges… Makes no sense to me. Bre’Anna Dezaray. Lol Do YOU get it?
Bre'Anna Dezaray says
I mean I’ve seen ppl do it who wear sew ins
Khristina Knight says
I mean I get it for that…= but I don’t get it for someone who is natural. Doesn’t that mean youre not natural anymore?
Bre'Anna Dezaray says
Right most are natural but wear sew in as a protective style so they relax the edges for a sleek sew in look with the sew in.
Khristina Knight says
Oh…. Ok. Just seems dangerous with the line of demarcation once the hair is growing out…. Plus if you keep doing that, won’t you eventually be all relaxed?
Bre'Anna Dezaray says
Nah . I mean if you aren’t relaxing your whole head only your front edges and leave out wouldn’t make you totally relaxed
Tina Marie Maddox says
Why go natural smh
Betty Wilborn says
I would not do this.
Ryan Wilson says
I use to
Abike Femi Balogun says
No no no
Debbie Meeks says
I wouldn’t, I love my natural edges!
Michelle Williams says
Am seeing that more often..Hmmm!
Aaron Michael says
Why are we judging her?she said she does it every 90 days or so and edge control doesnt help everyone
Siobhan Bradford says
Nope. I wouldnt. Do you.
Jessica Renae says
To each their own! The hair around my hairline is fine-my relaxed hair was down my back but if a wind blew through them bald spots at my temples showed lol. Now, if gel can’t catch it, it’s not gonna be caught
Tameka Teasley says
Nope won’t do it love my naturally curly, edges and all ….I’m mean it comes with the territory at least I thought
Ayanna Chiphe says
Nah. Gimme some jbco and a very tight scarf and we good.
Ayanna Chiphe says
And did you say…. Beedeebees? Nooo
LaShawn Chamberlain says
Relaxing is ok and being natural is ok also. I just don’t understand combining the two. The relaxer is not going to stay confined to the edges when washing it out. Personally, I prefer to leave my edges untouched, period. (No edge control, etc.) But each lady can make her own choice about her hair and what makes her happy.
Rebecca Jarrett says
i hate slicked down edges…
Shawnte Blyss Barr says
I don’t get it…wouldn’t that mean you have a perm. I mean as it grows your edges will be permed and that has to grow so as it keeps growing doesn’t that mean eventually the whole top of your head will be permed. I mean I’m confused. Is it me or am I having a duh moment?
Nakia Coleman says
Who cares… There are much more important things to concern ourselves with. REALLY
Ashley Wise says
It is not that serious (how much baby hair you want damn) but hey what’s for you is for you and not everyone else.
Raynisha Renee Jackson says
I was in beauty school & this chick came in & paid for a retouch. Mind you, I’m a STUDENT & i did not do the grease part for protection & proceeded with the creamy crack in her hair. Uhhhh i did not know that she had a severely scratched scalp. By the time I was done with everything, her edges was stuck to her scalp. At that time i noticed, the rest of her hair was not processed. I thought to myself, why did she want a retouch if she NEVER had a relaxer in her head? …I now know the answer.. lol thanks
Shawnte Blyss Barr says
I don’t know why but it look like she has relaxed hair to me but that’s my opinion
Tiara Diaconescu says
Lol. Nooo way lady! I don’t want my edges slick, I need them nappy curls like the rest of my head! Going natural isn’t about the look to me, its about being graceful, beautiful with what TMH has given me… Smh
Ypsilanti Hair says
1. Its not perm…because you want to RELAX the hair’s curly texture; Its called RELAXER.
2. You DO NOT EVER comb relaxer through the hair. You SMOOTH it with the spine (back of comb) of the comb.
3. You also dont have to use a lot of relaxer. It leads to a loss of edges, hair, scalp irritation.
4. Natural means just that NATURAL! Instead of relaxing your edges…use Edge Control by Olive Oil.
5. I’m a Cosmotologist & Licensed trying to be helpful to everyone.
Samone Sanders says
I used Olive oil edge control on my natural edges but they instantly curled up I also used creme of nature edge control it does the same thing just not instantly and right now I’m using hicks edge control it works but I have to tie my head up after using it so it can stay down and slick. Some ppl don’t want edge control where you have to tie it down for nice results they want a slap and go
Champagne Soblessed Moore says
I love smooth edges my edges must stay laid!
Chaquita Sugar Nabried says
I cant believe some of these comments. Smh and lol
Jamilah Rasheed says
I perm my hair ever time I get a sew in
Debra Peniston-Lasseter says
heck naw. good by edges
Denise Harris says
Yes, I do mines all the time, gel don’t work on my natural hair…
Myrtle Githinji says
Er no!
Tamara N Harvey says
Like my lil niece told me, “just use some Jam!”
Mahogany Love says
Vanity…
Foxie Briscoe says
Say good by to ur edges
Kristin Daniels says
I’ll never understand the tug of war of this topic. If you want to relax it, do that. If you want natural hair, fine. I’m natural and what kills me about some of my fellow naturalistas is this: why debate the chemicals that other women put in their hair and not debate the chemicals that you eat? Caring more about hair than your body is puzzling to me. Why buy organic coconut oil for your hair and fry a pack of hormonal chicken legs and eat processed food
Zettica Wilson-Bankins says
Hot damn! Say it again
Kellie Bluitt says
Right!!! Im sure half off them on here still eat McDonald’s. Smh
Tywana Beaver says
What’s the point of my natural hair if I relaxed my edges? Once new growth starts, the relaxed hair is pushed back, so technically she’s not natural at all. She just relax her edges and not her whole head … Then again, you part your hair in a bowl shape to add the relaxer that way. So the middle of her hair is natural and not the edges all around her head? … Nope. Wouldn’t do it. Too much just to wear a weave
Carolyn Gilbert says
Guys, she is doing it simply because she can. If you won’t do it, just say no and keep it moving. No need for the shitty attitudes and dialogue. #naturalhairsnobs
Marilyn Rmsb says
It’s her head so what the problem lol
Brittany Avery says
Why is everyone obsessed over other people’s edges?
Francen Leger says
It’s not a perm it’s a relaxer a perm curls your hair and a relaxer straighten your hair
Djenaba Hernton says
Omg! Thank you!
Sharon Laprice Vass says
Too each its own hell might just perm my whole head
Latoya Aaliyah Small says
Ummm just why? Lol this is stupid just relax it all if you going that far.
Shelley Denise says
I have read comments about two different hair textures ( lol they are edges-she didn’t perm half her head. Folks act like they have never seen black folks with naturally straighter edges slicked back with a head full of curly hair in a puff), edges becoming weak, or not being a true natural. Why are permed edges not embracing our natural hair? Unless you do not wax/thread your eyebrows, shave, wear deodorant, makeup/lip gloss, etc speak on lol. Even if perming your edges was NOT embracing what you were born with, so what? Women do squats to get a more desireable butt among other things, so just because you were born with it does not mean you have to like it. I’m sure someone is reading this like “Oh my gawd! You need to love yourself!” Lol! Some people may be able to handle natural hair, just not the edges and so friggin what? They may LIKE straight edges with kinky hair, and it has NOTHING to do with not loving yourself. I am a natural, and the last perm that touched my hair was many years ago, but if I did perm my edges again it is either for neater look in a particular style, or because I just want to. Perming your hair does NOT always mean a person has been conditioned to embrace european standards of beauty. Most of the people claiming people who perm their hair are embracing european ideas of beauty, look at fashion magazines and home decor magazines for tips *shrugs*
Trina Gaskins French says
It’s still chemicals . What’s the point? Embrace your hair
Serena Wws says
My hair can’t handle perm. It would drop all my edges of the cliff. Some black women have that coarse natural hair that can handle it hey to each their own.
Ahjahla Hayward says
The thing with this is when you relax it it grow and gets more and more closer to your ends and each time it grows out you relax it again which eventually your whole head on the out side will be relaxed
Sharonda Milburn says
I used to even when I had the relaxed but not no more u’ll learn to love it at least like it but u have to make u’r self happy do u I totally understand.
Belle Lele says
No i wouldn’t. They have things to slick your edges.
Chevy Genous says
To be honest I don’t even think she is natural. She never stated she was in the video and when she washed her hair it didn’t look natural. Maybe she just touch up the edges in between relaxers.
Roselyn King says
You get stuck in that touch up time again
Sieta Glenn says
So she is relaxed
Myisha Henderson says
Hmm I have actually thought about this.
Britianella Washington says
Heck no!! She might as well go ahead and perm her whole head
Adrienne Smedley says
Huh? I don’t get it
NeeCee Simmons says
First things first, it’s her hair secondly I do it too!!
Felecia Grant Jordan says
No because natural means that your edges are natural too. Then they will be thin or maybe bald. Try to keep everything the same texture.
Joyce Lee Nicole Page says
Do whatever works for you personally I think is pointless is stupid
Valorie Taylor says
Stay strong No Creamy Crack
NoElle NeAntre says
I believe you are no longer natural if you feel the need to perm your edges, but I’m the same person that wears make up, they both take away from the natural effect.
Trudy Fountain says
No way..
Summer Lucille says
I relax my edges…and if my other hair start acting up its get some creamy crack too LMAO
Kella BlessednBeautiful McCants says
What’s the point of being natural when u just gonna perm ya edges anyway?
Capri Zuri says
Reasons for going natural;
I no longer choose to accept the propaganda that European textured hair is the ideal of beauty.
I want to embrace my nappiness, accept it for it’s uniqueness.
My hair will grow longer if I am not stripping it with an abrasive toxic chemical.
I love my hair.
If I were to straighten my edges it would contradict all of my reasoning for being natural. By straightening your edges you are still accepting the subliminal brainwashing that straighter is better. That straight equates neat, nice, normal. That natural isn’t good enough. Above all else straightening my edges is damaging to my hair. It exposes me to the risk of alopecia. Buying relaxers lines the pockets of the relaxer companies who sell the poison with the full knowledge of the health risk.
Bridgett Nesby says
This makes no sense your hair is going to grow out so you’ll have two different textures
Abeautiful BlackRican Queen says
I personally would not, but to each it’s own.
Nyala Nan says
Don’t do this whatever you do…speaking from experience having long healthy natural hair and nappy edges ain’t cute!!
Sagittarius Felisha says
I don’t understand why people are so judgemental when it comes to hair. There are women with curly wavy fine long beautiful hair in its natural state that texlax because it’s too thick… there are also natural women with very course nappy natural hair that won’t grow and they are the most judgemental.
Cassandra Bartee says
No I wouldn’t. I’m not going there right now, but what I will say is, when you’re relaxed, no natural texture at all, natural style, wanna slap relaxer on what you’ve been blessed with….. IJS, think about it…..
Angela Gray says
Who gives a damn about 100% natural or relaxed. You females always want to compete and be on some type of side. What does natural or relax say about a person? Not a damn thing. Hell some of you claiming natural this and that but have the most fake attitude and personality. I mean is there a book or regulation saying what you can and can’t do if you choose to be 100% natural….I think NOT!
Tremayne Khapre Hollins says
That is exactly what it is, but to each their own.
Sharie Arthur says
Yeah i guess she just wants smooth edges. Lol
Bri Nic Gre says
the f**kery they talk about….to each his own
LaToyia Thomas says
I understand the concept but when it grows out is where the two textures will eventually look different, but if she manipulates her hair then she’ll be able to blend just like transitioning but whatever girl your hair do you. I just throw some edge control and call it a day lol
Chanette Staton says
Smh!
Kamela M Oxner says
That doesn’t seem like a good idea
TreVaughn Monet says
I don’t see the point .. But hey it’s her hair
Evelyn Allen says
= NotNatural
Stephanie Lott says
I tried it around my neck and it broke off…. But that’s just my story
Amber Selfridge says
This is like asking for your hair to break off.
C.k. Hampton says
What’s the point?!?! If my hair is going to be curly then so will my edges!!
Q says
Did anyone realize she didn’t use a neutralizing shampoo
Lisa Middleton says
I did
Ametra May says
Kind of defeats the purpose of being natural to me. I wouldn’t do it but I know everyone wants those edges looking as good as possible.
Nkechi Obi Anyanwu says
love my natural edges so much. It make me prouder
Poterressia Barnes says
I wouldn’t do it, but I won’t knock anyone for what they so to their own hair! My edges irritate me daily, but I refuse to go back to the creamy crack!
Nova Coston says
Not if you want your hair!!!
Olivia C. Jenkins says
So you aren’t embracing your hair if you’re wearing it straight ? Smh
Also, as we all are titled to our own opinions, we don’t need to bring others down with them. Some of the comments are just wow…
Dimitria Lee says
You not natural.
Nikesha Drummond says
She is a natural beauty because she is wearing her on hair but she cannot be a complete natural because she permanently alters her texture. I have thick unruly hair but my edges lay down just fine with gel. She’s doing her, I’ll do me and you just do you. Give her a break she’ll figure it out. Her hair will probably break before she gets but she will.
Elldwinia Brown English says
Hmmmm , I see her point. I have cancer , I would trade places with anyone with hair
Anjanette Anthony says
No because if your hair continues to grow then eventually you’ll have a perm.
If the Lord wanted you to have straight laid down edges…you would’ve had them!!!!
La Donna Tyrone says
Not personally, edge control is my friend.
Denise Blakey- Haynes says
Why do we care? It’s her hair she can do whatever she want to! Natural is no better than straight, each requires work and maintenance. What’s the big deal? Why are people who have natural hair so judgmental? Really people…
Jasmine Shontae says
I already am and don’t give a damn what the next thinks. What works for you, works for you..
Rosemarie Roy-Wright says
Not for me but if she likes it, I love it!
Tonya Gross says
That defeats the purpose.
Victoria Beasley says
Does it matter? It’s our hair do what you want!!!!!
Peetigaye Brown says
well i relax my edges and i have edges and quite frankly i dont need to explain myself to anyone
Sherrelle Belin says
No.
Cb Sampson says
This makes no sense the addiction to relaxers is crazy she could have gotten the same result with a good deep conditioner .
Katrina Green says
What’s the point of being natural if you’re relaxing your edges…its kind of an oxymoron…
Kassidi Hammond says
It’s a partial relaxer. Not a big deal. I have a friend who has a natural Mohawk but the tapered sides are relaxed. I told her, it’s her hair, don’t worry about it.
Prescious Siti says
Darn autocorrect. To each its own. Just know you are no longer natural.
Shena Shepard says
Some edge control or gel dnt work damn it’s her hair she can do what she wants if it works best for her
Peetigaye Brown says
please show me the natural hair manual telling me what i can and cannot do with MY hair you claim yourself to be a community yet all you do is bash ppl thats their choice its their hair …self esteem doesn’t have anything to do with t just please think before you try to be a scholar and hair nazi …. I relax my edges and my hair is healthier than some of you talking crap
Keyonna Jones says
Either wear it natural or put in a relaxer. That’s just stupid to me.
Tiffania Carter says
She not a naturalista! She’s going with the times
Capricia N Jenkins says
Hell no that’s stupid and defeats the purpose of being natural
Hattie Berger says
I have perm my edges for 32 years it my hair and I do what I want with it!!
Sydney Shea Jacobs says
I don’t think it’s a good idea, because the hair will eventually break off, and then you won’t have any edges. But do whatever you want
Sophia Jones says
I relaxed my back and edges. My top is natural. I like it. I have a short cut and sometimes I like my sides slick and my top curly. I had highlights when I was completely natural the cut it off and did something different. How you style your hair is a way of expressing yourself. There is nothing wrong with experimenting with different colors, chemicals, etc. as long as you keep your hair healthy. People often complain about chemicals in hair products but, don’t complain about the chemicals in the food they put in their bodies.
#youdoyou #boo
Cheryl Ward says
I don’t see the purpose in this. All she needs is a good edge control and tie it down with a scarf.
Satin Berry says
I’ve done it.
Alexis Howard says
I’m glad that those gels and expensive edge control works for somebody…lol But if you are eating foods full of hormones and GMOs…newsflash! You ain’t natural either! Bang! Bang! Moral of the story, live and let live.
Paris Dior says
that’s dangerous though …..
Dominique Lanee Washington says
#Preach
Ashley Nicole Chalmers says
I think it’s stupid…in the end will mess up the overall hair when it grows out. what if it starts breaking off at the straight portion? Left damn near bald headed until it grow back. With all the different products there are out there I’m sure there’s one that’ll work for you everybody natural pretty much go through the trail and error stage when finding the right products for YOUR hair
Rochelle Westbrooks says
Why
Bianca Nauls says
not natural. You are permed.
Brittany Sweat says
This is Stupid!
Morena Ervedosa says
After all the time and dedication spent on my hair i wouldn’t let it near any chemicals. I want to change and do different things like colouring but no way i’ll ruin it now
Marazita Davis says
It’s your head and if it makes you feel good then do the damn thing.
I would if that’s what I wanted to do with MY HAIR.
Rymina Cheytan says
What’s the point of having natural hair if you’re going to perm your edges? That defeats the purpose.
LaRona Johnson Adams says
Yes indeed deep it does, and when she wash the perm out it’s gonna get on the rest of her hair!
Shanna-Kaye Parris says
It’s way more common than people are willing to admit
Christy Thornton says
I pass! I’m happy to be 100% nappy.
Marianne Addison says
What’s the point? I stopped perming my hair because I saw hairlines receding in other women and I didn’t want that to happen to me.
Von Fisher says
Ijs.., your hair grows from the roots out. Applying any type of chemical to the roots. Rather it’s just the edges or not. Does this process still makes you a naturalist.!!! I’m natural of 2yrs now.! Use to love my weaves, don’t get me wrong. But once converted I’m team natural all the way. Do you., but whatever you do. Keep it real with yourself 100%.!!!
Kima-Shai Wooten says
I can truly understand the logic behind it! But I don’t see going through that trouble! I have gotten used to using WAAAAYYYY more gel since I’ve been natural though! lol
Lindsey Suzyq Seward says
Noooo than she isn’t consider natural just like those who use color while natural ..its a chemical…
Adriann Jordan-Durr says
No.
Lakisha Traywick says
The point is alot of natural’s wear sew~ins and want to leave hair out so they perm the outside so they want have to constantly press the outside.
MN Johnson says
Its not natural if u use relaxer, use edge control.
Elle Gold says
Not natural with relaxer
Adrianne Drake says
Many natural hair people perm their ends and their nape. They also perm their leave outs. This has been happening before the natural hair epidemic (which is a good thing) began.
Antricia King says
Hell no!
Eboni Richardson says
Soooooo when the edges grow out… Lol, never mind.
Cheron Carter says
Maybe the hair products she uses doesn’t work with her edges or keeps them as laid as she likes. I see nothing wrong with it.
Lindsay Blair says
Why
Nena Elizabeth says
Do this all the time
Alexis Symone Robinson says
You don’t have to perm your edges to blend weave.
Chelly Belle Allen says
Defeats the purpose! Love your NATURAL YOU!!!
Constance Bates-Coleman says
No longer all natural silk out do the same
Yvonne Nobles says
If that’s what you want, but to ME natural is natural…it works for her that’s fine
Diane RhineHart says
What for
Joyce Givens says
Nope! Never!
LaRona Johnson Adams says
Hicks edge control is great!
Mary Mitchell says
Yes I would, just the edges.
Tonya Walker says
What’s the point? Won’t be long before the creamy crack is back!
Sarah Tucker says
Kind of defeats the whole purpose of being natural, eventually the whole head will be permed from retouching and trimming the natural hair. Rather pointless as it is a slower way of getting straight hair. Their business though, I would never do it, I could imagine the edges thinning because of it too. No thanks.
Jonnie Potter says
Wtf…you either want it natural or permed, make up your mind you can’t have them both you be defeating your purpose!!! That’s what’s wrong with some of our sistahs now….. No damn edges, embrace your natural beauty✌
Kelli Mcghee says
Did this back in the day
Celena Wheeler says
Im thinking about perming my leave out
Toni Maxwell says
PARTIAL PREMING???
Kaye Mone't says
When I first went natural I did this once every 3-4mo while transitioning. Which ended up being the dumbest idea ever because once all my relaxer grew out, now I had all this dumb straight hair in the front. That’s was like 5yrs ago but I guarantee it’s more ppl they do this but won’t admit it lol
Ara Hayward says
No way….
Imelda Lopez says
I don’t give a hot damn. DO.WHAT.YOU.NEED.TO.DO.TO.BE.HAPPY!!!!
Its not costing me a dime nor will I lose sleep over what someone else does.
That is what all these opinionated people need to do as well!
If you perm your whole head, so what.
If you don’t, so what!
If you perm half and the rest natural, So what!
Rhonda Monique Nash says
I feel like this, if u r going to go natural go all the way..people are saying what’s the big deal she’s grown ,well that’s not the point ..one
Of the reasons being natural is great is bcuz we aren’t exposing are body or hair to harmful chemicals..over time ur hair will suffer from doing that and it kind of defeats the purpose of even becoming natural, which is too have healthier hair and to embrace our natural texture, but people seem to care more about the appearance of edges. .I say learn to manage ur texture naturally..it’s frustrating bcuz I just want to support such a great thing, but people take it wrong..this makes a lot of natural women angry
Bcuz it still shows that we are struggling with the reasons of going natural…it’s not a trend…its taking care of yourself and appreciating what God blessed you with …plz let’s do Natural the right way
Hairguru says
Thats no longer natural who ever does that need to be honest with themselves
naturalsince08 says
Who doesn’t know how to put a perm in?
What’s the point of the whole video?
I’ve learned absolutely nothing from this.
Sirena Reynolds says
I relax my ‘kitchen’ area, but not bone straight. This helps me achieve a uniform texture throughout my hair. I’m not here to judge another woman’s style choice; it’s negative. If it works for her, why not?
Nastasia Crystal says
i wouldnt but i dont “need to” i guess and to each their own
Cocoa Sherell says
But why would you tho??? So want to weaken the strongest portion of your hair…ok
Ursh Nicodemus Motloung says
What’s the point, love my kinky edges
Tiffany Washington says
Folks really need to learn to mind their dayum bizness! Smh
Veronica Braga says
Personally I’m mediteranuan and my hair is really frizzy and even I straigten my hair. I might not relax it as its not fir my type of hair but i believe what makes you feel amazing and yes natural is best but maybe not look the best all the time. I don’t straigtrn my hair to look like an English woman but i straighten it so it looks nice and I can controle it better. Sometimes I feel to let the curls out. Do you ladies and stop cussing each other, expecialybif you have more manageable hair you want to cuss a woman whos hair might not be as easy to handle.
F.a. Ellis says
I saw this pic in a natural hair group im in and I laugh at the ones that call the others natural hair police or natural Nazis and yet, they ones that’s being phony or fake are “probably” the ones that’s relaxing those egdes getting texurizer or supposely using a natural hair kit, because they can’t deal with different textures of their hair or its just to thick to comb.Oh and, I dont have any against people with natural perm kit, texurizers and relaxers (I had it
once)buy why fake being something you not.I guess my comment is gonna be label the “hair nazis”or the “hair police”because I state my opinion that’s different from others.some times stating opinion thata not agreement with others that makr comments, called or label a name, because your opinion is different from what every one is saying or commenting about.
Shea Adolphin-Elzy says
I use to do it and eventually the chemical started damaging my front edges. So I no longer do it. I prefer to use grease to keep my edges layed
Jocelyn McKoy says
What’s the point of doing that? That makes as much sense as bald crowns with shags. You’ll end up on team no edges.
Brittney-Elizabeth Williams says
I feel that we should stop hair policing our fellow black women. Everyone is different and likes different things.
Their hair, their choice.
Corinna Dunn says
What is the point?
Latisha Brown Swans says
It defeats the purpose of being (naptural.)
Marie Greer says
A good ole press
Nataucha Gray says
It’s stupid
Linda Tucker Russell says
Absolutely Not….
Tennell Rampersant says
No thanks I’ll pass.
Shannon M Brown says
That defeats the purpose of being natural
Shavell Artiste says
How can you say you’re natural if you perm any part of your hair? You can’t.
Andrea Lynn-Bailey says
Ummm no! I wish i would let a perm touch certain parts of my hair. Im all natural
Chendra Turner says
Smh permed edges.. Nappy edges… Who cares???? Do u really care about what others do to their own hair? Does it keep u up at night? Lol I thinks not! Permed natural weave locks??? Who cares!!! Nobody! As long as it suits your needs don’t waste time on blah blah blah!
Leta Tyrell says
My edges are the softest part of my hair
Carmella McCoy says
I’ve got the kinkiest texture ever and all I have to do is smooth my edges back with the palm of my hands with some gel.
Sharita Renee Wilson says
I wouldn’t perm my edges, no matter how hard they are to lay at times… I love having edges and perming would have them gone with the wind
Jennifer Alexis says
from a girl who only used to relax to soften the hair on her forehead … I don’t think it’s bad idea at all !!!
Doris Lorraine Woods says
now that’s just STUPID!!!!
Patricia Alvarez says
I guess so! Nothing is right anymore, nothing!
Chaknaze Zachery says
This is dumb. Whats the point?
Vanessa Barcel says
I let my edges be, that’s the whole point of going natural
Bridget Myers says
H to the no!
Jackie Robinson says
But if you putting a relaxer in any part of your hair it’s no longer natural?????
Morgann Shantle-Berinna Robinson says
I cannot stand the “natural community”. Not all people are bad but the ones that are upset me. Why can’t someone love their hair and their “roots” with permed hair. I have a friend with long healthy relaxed hair and she loves! Some of y’all need to get over what other wants to do with their own head. It doesn’t mean that they don’t accept their roots….it just means they like natural hair. I like my natural hair because it’s healthy but I am not apart of “the natural community” scene.
Janell Walker says
Two things: Black women do not PERM their hair. PERM is short for Permanent which is the process “white” women use to chemically curl their hair. Black women chemically STRAIGHTEN their hair which is called RELAXING by using a RELAXER. Secondly, if it works for her and makes her happy, I truly don’t care what she does with her hair. I’m natural after almost 20 years of relaxing and my edges are baby hair fine but if they weren’t…who knows…whatever works for you.
Michelle Prussia Sibanda says
I believe she does this for weaves? I thought about relaxing my edges but nah because I don’t wear weaves very often so the maintenance and upkeep is just gonna suck and I’m lazy. However I do see where she’s coming from if she’s the type of girl who wears weaves or wigs all the time and would prefer to have a leave out rather than a closure.
Dianna Nash says
I have relaxed my hair and enjoying the break. Not a total straight perm.
Bridgette Mallory says
No I would use eco styler gel or Flex seed gel
Wanda Collins says
Yes I did long time ago
Valerie Wilson says
It’s just hair…who cares.
Valerie Murphy says
Okay!
Ingrid Wright says
Nah
Realz ByNature says
Hell no i want both my hair and my edges thank u very much
Shauna Shanice Taylor says
Yes
Randi Gary says
Bye felicia
Kathryn Moore says
NOPE,NO CREAMY CRACK,PLEASE
Sharma Bryant says
Hell no!!#
Juanita Morris says
Not Even!!! What’s the purpose of being Natural! !!!!
Leedea Harrison says
Uh… No, I would not do that because that would mean that my hair is not all natural. And relaxers are nasty dangerous chemicals.
Katrina Davis says
No! Not for me…….But entitled to do you
Chermine Belhomme says
Crazy
Rebecca Dunkins says
I did it for almost a year in my transitioning phase. I straighten my natural hair and permed my edges to match the permed hair I was still scared to cut off. But I eventually stopped and did my big chop! It sounds worse than it is, but do what works for you!!!
Emily Monteiro says
Never!!!!!
Terri says
Anytime you perm hair you need to use a neutralizer shampoo to stop the perm from processing. Plus when that hair grows(if it grows versus fall out) it will be straight. Not worth it. Embrace your curls!
Ashley says
So many things wrong with this but the most apparent is wat happens when ur edges grow out? That hair is still relaxed…so its no longer just relaxing edges…ur relaxing the whole perimeter(from roots to ends)…and if it doesnt grow out ur frying the same hair again and again until you have none.
Nikeisha Lovelace says
Black women are the most judgemental when it comes to hair. Natural hair, Relaxed hair who cares it’s hair I’ve been natural, relaxed and I wear a weave who cares. DO YOU BOO
Whitney Solier says
If you continue to perm your edges as new growth comes in (in an effort to lay down those edges), won’t you eventually end up with a complete head of permed hair? Just my thoughts. In the long term this makes no sense.
Natasha Thomas says
Nope, not putting that creamy crack in my hair ever again. I’ve been fine without it for 5 years now, I just use gel to smooth my edges when I’m wearing certain styles.
Keisha Smith says
Why? Looo
Koncrete Rose says
Semi-natural? I can see this being a trend
Justice James says
I’ve seen people do this. Crazy. People focus too much on edges. I like mine curly. Is the edge police coming to give out tickets for nonslick edges?
Roberts Mo says
Lmao ????, the edge Police, where they at, lol
Pamela Pettway says
Don’t do it I did once and it’s just Silly #Regret
Ariana Nicole says
I wouldn’t. But I see why one would do this. Edges are hard to lay down sometimes when you want a sleek look, if you have a course texture. I don’t have that issue with my 3c hair though.
Jasmine Williamson says
4C hair is the worst my edges never stay flat when I gel them down it’s frustrating but I’m not gonna perm them cause once it starts to grow it’s gonna look stupid
Lisa Taylor says
Keep it 100% natural.
Shy Brown says
Mommy does this… And it makes sense & looks nice.
But the breakage is REAL ????
Jai Bacote says
I have and probably would again. I like smooth edges on me though.
Lonique Renee Brooklyn Ryan says
Yea people like laid edges tgat stay laid
Beverly Buckley says
What’s the purpose of going natural then you put relaxer on your edges.. that’s what gel and scarves are for.
Roxie Heart says
Agreed its being lazy. If going to take care of your do it all the way. No chemicals. That’s what edge control products are for
Shavonne R. Boyd says
That doesn’t work all the time. My edges never lay from gel and water.
Eva J Byam says
As your hair grows with the edges relaxer…You wont have natural hair anymore. Relaxed hair and natural hair will come to a point of breakages curl vs straight when you come or brush the hair.
Tee Tee Smith says
Just use a good edge control!
Bri Elle says
Maybe try “wet edges”. I use a little Eco Styler and I apply my edge control. They have never worked separately for me so I put them together.
LaTisa Carrington says
Imma try that! Neither one work for me separately but I never thought about trying them together…hmmm
Bri Elle says
Awww yay! I use the carols daughter black vanilla one and it works great! If you have time, tie a scarf to help it hold ????
Peya Urena says
If you want your edges to be sleek that badly then idk why ppl dont just flatiron it. Itll become smoother from heat damage eventually anyway
Valerie Vallion says
We used to (still) damp our edges, put royal crown or whatever heavy hair grease/oil and brushed. But I am old school.
100% natural means no chemicals to alter. That also mean colouring.
Eva J Byam says
I use form wrop lotion and Eco gel.. or coconut oil, Jam. I have to wet my hair little bit.
Keisha Smith says
But if your natural and colour your hair you still have to take care of the natural state curls you have. So you’re actually still natural
Tiffany Marie Banks says
Color doesn’t break the disulfide bonds in your hair (the bonds that determine hair texture).
Valerie Vallion says
Respect each of response about colouring but it’s my opinion and stating you are wrong.
NaKisha Harvey says
I disagree if you have natural hair and you color it then you are still natural. But hey to each it’s own
Tiffany Rodgers Nelson says
I agree with u Valerie Vallion color is a chemical. Ur no longer natural with any type of chemicals n ur hair
Samantha Henville says
If u are natural & use a non chemical colouring u are still 100% natural. I’m allergic to any dye with ammonia or parabins, which are chemicals. There is alot more variety out there now which is not harmful to your scalp or hair..
Javell Sede says
Natural texture with chemical color. Simple. Now carry on.
Djenaba Hernton says
Then you’re not natural…
Roxie Heart says
Coloring messed up my natural hair 2 years ago: ( weakened and hair loss
Tabatha Lewis says
I’ve been natural for a while and my stylist uses a straightening comb and Marcel flat iron and you can’t even tell I don’t have a relaxer.
Amber Devonne Scott says
This makes no sense. .when the edges do grow and the new growth comes in …………oh lord
Rebecca Pinas says
Its so weird
Yolanda Daniels-Birdsong says
Absolutely not!! Hicks edge control and satin scarf… Tie it down for a few minutes should be good.
Em Tang says
What ..
CeCe Ali says
Ugh, why
Dawn Dicxie Robinson says
We use gorilla snot and a scarf. Works great
Kaya Staten says
HELLO!
I have locs and Gorilla Snot makes my edges look like I relaxed them!????
Bk Turner says
Nope I wouldn’t
Ashley Taylor says
But those edges travel down… continue the process and you have relaxed hair
Tyara Nielsen says
Either you’re natural or you’re not pick a side….lol
Diona Stampley says
Same for me Roxie Heart. Coloring my hair has set my hair growth back at least a year. You live and you learn.
Roxie Heart says
You do I started over back on this journey. So being extra careful this time around. Big Chopped it all Feb 20, 2017
Shenelle Simon says
i tried it… don’t do it
Jacquelyn Young says
Yep, know lots of you tubers that do it but denies it. I’ve done this to my edges a couple of times but the natural hair grows back so fast I would have to do it oo often
Ana 'Ana Bug' Mebane says
I know someone who did that and didn’t see the point. There’s ways to make your edges lay down if you’re natural.
Ashley Lauren says
You can’t have natural and relaxed hair at the same time so….. no. I choose natural. My hair is kinky from edges to ends
Aisia Lea Crooke says
Why must our edges lay so damn flat anyways? Many of us are still on our way to accepting our hair. Smdh
Bruce N Erica Hagood-Coker says
No way!
Nikki Robbi says
But as time goes on and you keep relaxing your edges, you would eventually have either no “natural” hair left or some weird straigt ring of hair
Angelica Noel Brown says
Lol. No. That’s what water and gel are for…
CreativeConfidence Phillips says
Uhh isn’t this like cheating Gia G-Banga Barbie Phillips Ellen Phillips Martinique Phillips
Nyca Anthony says
If its that serious, you prolly shouldnt be nature…ijs
Jamillah Clark says
No thanks! Team no chemicals
Donna Washington says
No no no stop
Justine Fields says
I wouldn’t, but who cares if someone does it and still call themselves natural. If it’s not for you then just don’t do it, but don’t knock folks who choose to.
Erica Morley says
I believe if you relax ya edges every month every year you will have none by the end of the year… It’s better to not relax lady’s it makes ya hair look thinner no relaxer is better
Mimi Pomell says
My face just made a “I’m confused face” I felt my neck and head cock to the side like… what folly is this?? I don’t get it/like it.
Dara Monestime says
Nah.
Zee Ampey says
No I wouldn’t. That defeats the point of natural and I don’t understand why some women are so hung up on “laid”edges anyway, Messing around with your edges is how u end up with no edges at all js
Britt'Lee Jordan says
I did it before
Tracy Peoples says
Then it’s not Natural. NIETHER IS DYEING YOUR HAIR
Jasmine Brown says
yes but I only leave on my hair for 7 minutes then rinse and wash out
Sharon Jones says
Umm no
Tiela Lewis says
What?!
Vivian N. Larsen says
This is such a retarded post ! :-O wicked that people even do it !!! It’s like saying you are vegan and care about animals yet BUY a pet to keep you company..when it’s convenient for YOU…but most of the time you leave ALL ALONE in an apartment/home.. and it barely interacts with other animals.. but you consider yourself a FRIEND for animals.. even though you have bought and enslaved and locked one up most of the time for your amusement…
People in this time and age are so retarded !!
Tracy Adams Franklin says
Might as well use the whole fan
damn jar and be done with it.
Janina Moniece Riley says
Ummm i mean….after a while wouldnt you have a ring of straight hair
Victoria Wilson Lestrange says
I’m sorry but is being accomplished here? Like at that point your hair is no longer natural.
Steffi Reína says
If you’re worried about curly or nappy edges, do not go natural. Natural embraces our roots, literally. That curl framing your face – no matter how loose or coarse – is part of you. Either leave it alone or lay it down with pomade or gel. But don’t relax beauties!!!! I’m natural, but I flat iron my hair. When those edges start to get bushy, I either leave them alone or I gel them. But I love that they’re me!
Gwendolyn Carter says
Defeats the struggle to getting natural hair
Ifraj Ingram says
I wouldn’t I use a little water, and either some moisturizer Shea Butter curling custard or castor oil and eco styler gel and tie my hair up. It ain’t permanent but you got to embrace those curly edges or honestly maybe being natural at that moment is not for you.
All bs aside those relaxers are poison and mess with our health if you have made the decision to go natural you journey is pointless if you relax your edges just for a style
Mia Roper says
Sanaa…. The edges issue.
Jazmine Nicole says
Some of us have to my s**t is so f**ken nappy i have to perm edges just my edges thou
Liline L. Alerte says
Natural and won’t go back…I might as well perm my whole hair…who does that lol
Glen J. Dyes says
That like defeats the purpose of having natural hair. Stupid. . .
Nissi DeNas says
it may work for some ppl. a blow dryer with the brush attachment works well
Andrea Angie Tater says
That will surely give you NO edges #waterandvaseline
Shaquanna Clark says
Thens its not natural. I’m a permer. I can’t do the natural.
Newuser Wallace says
Go natural but the edges has “creamy crack”.
Orlondo Cottery says
Unnatural! Right?!
Anonymous says
it’s no longer considered natural. people do it bc they can’t embrace their natural edges. so what if they don’t lay down. stay natural or go back to the creamy crack 100%
Anonymous says
Good way to loose you edges faster
Anonymous says
I do it about once a year. Mine are full & just fine. It’s not that I choose not to “embrace” my natural edges, I just choose to do what I like…which is relax my edges if I feel like it.
Anonymous says
Yeah only if u wanna have no edges
Anonymous says
It’s not natural if it’s relaxed.
Anonymous says
But why♀️
Anonymous says
Edges bouts to be all gone
Anonymous says

My friend did this way back when before natural hair was a thing and still do. You’ll never see the difference… not a big deal really! People have different preferences, it’s normal.
Anonymous says

Anonymous says
What is point of being natural
Anonymous says

Anonymous says
I relax the edges and nape of my daughters hair.
Anonymous says

Anonymous says
It is her business, but she put it on social media and I’m curious ????????♀️
Anonymous says
Curiosity isnt beneficial

Idk why ppl act like there is some magic regimen that combats the downsides to natural hair its alot of work for all she knows this womans child could be tenderheaded an that is a job in itself back in the day that press comb was on that fire cause if ur not ready for the maintenance of natural hair or have a tenderheaded child its a workout
Anonymous says
And I definitely didn’t say anything about “embracing your natural” I do natural and weaves so who am I to judge.
Anonymous says
People can do whatever they like with their hair omg
Anonymous says
I always think it’s funny when people say stuff like this on social media lol. Like we know they can but it was brought to social media to have a discussion
Anonymous says
It’s not natural if you relax it
Anonymous says
To each it’s own. ..
Anonymous says
But why?
Anonymous says
I wish people knew how delicate edges were, honestly it’s like people want to be natural but, not really. I can’t speak for others because, all I need is gel and a scarf but, it’s part of the package
Anonymous says
U can do whatever u want with ur hair as long as u can maintain it we all have that choice
Anonymous says
It’ll look good but it’s gone cause breakage
Anonymous says
Ppl always have their 2 cents about somebody else’s hair but, they not about to go to nobody’s house and do someone’s hair for free When we die it really won’t matter anyway ♀️ Except natural hair nazis will stand up at your funeral and be like “she died early because she relaxed her edges/hair” ♀️ that example sounds rude and dumb and over the top right? Well so is condemning someone because they prefer a certain hairstyle on THEIR head ♀️ Plus, anything can take out/ruin edges…I’ve seen some natural hair women with NO edges too ♀️ I don’t relax my hair but, that doesn’t mean everyone MUST do what I do ♀️ I bet the same ppl pushing being natural are the same ones who get mad when someone pushes religion or a lifestyle they don’t agree with on them
Anonymous says
Calm down lol it’s not that serious. It’s just a discussion
Anonymous says
Just find a good edge control, why go through all of that?
Anonymous says
That s**t actually take away ya edges. It took me a longtime to figure that out
Anonymous says
I bet it’s super hard to comb out two different textures she is going farther then her edges
Anonymous says
I did it once but then I realised it weakened it so I stopped
Anonymous says
Nothing’s wrong with it
Anonymous says
HELL NAW
Anonymous says
Its stupid but it’s their business. Their edgeline will be bald and gone! All you need is water, gel control, and a scarf, it’s that simple instead of using chemical that’s not good for your hair follicles and your bloodstream.
Anonymous says
Wonder why people trying to fight for those edges, edgeless
Anonymous says
Did this to my daughter, never again. I learned my lesson.
Anonymous says
We just talked about this in a post a couple days ago, like literally a couple days ago. Then a few weeks before that . I thought we all agreed that the answer is no. But if you think it’s cute then do it I guess but I don’t think think that’s considered “natural” though…
Anonymous says
No!!! That’s stupid
Anonymous says
Done.
Anonymous says
Do what you want, but why risk the bad side effects of having those chemicals on your body… If you don’t have to?
Anonymous says
I don’t relax my edges and I lay them down only if I feel like it.
Anonymous says
Their choice, I wouldn’t do it though.
Anonymous says
To each his own. I’ll pass
Anonymous says
Just perm the whole thing. That’s crazy
Anonymous says
People put too much concern in others people business. They want to be 100% natural their head their business. They want to relax their edges, their head, their business. They want to be creamy crackheads, their prerogative. Ive been natural before and I loved it. I’m relaxed now and I love it. Nobody is paying my hairdresser besides me so why should they care. Much more pressing issues.
Anonymous says
Personally, I wouldn’t. Their hair, they can do whatever they like…
Anonymous says
To answer the question, no I wouldn’t.
