Tea is typically not my thing, I mean I will have a cup every now and then and afterwards be eternally grateful I made it. One year I did go out and purchase an entire tin of some exotic stuff from Teavana thinking I could create the habit of having tea daily, but it didn’t work out for two reasons.
A Teavana habit can get very disrespectful to anyone with modest finances, and it is too much work to make just one cup. Now I stick to plain old tea bags and my “every now and then” approach is slowly changing to twice a week, every week.
I am not afraid to admit that a sistah is getting a little older and if you just Google the health benefits of tea you will find that a cup a day might just keep the doctor away. Black tea specifically eliminates free radicals, aids in the digestive system, is great for oral health, cardiovascular benefits, prevents cancer and the list goes on and on.
Now we could sit and chat about the internal health benefits of black tea all day, but what would be the point of contributing to a hair blog if I do not mention something about hair?
Black tea is highly caffeinated, so if you think coffee gets you going, try this on for size. The caffeine in the tea prevents hair loss, which means it is excellent for drastically reducing shedding. In addition to preventing shedding, the rinse makes hair, shiny, softer and it can darken your hair as well.
In the video below, Jasmine Rose demonstrates how black tea actually affects her locs, they do look noticeably darker and she admits they are softer and shinier. Of course black tea works for any hair texture, chemically processed or not, color treated or not.
If you are experiencing excessive shedding, try the black tea rinse and see how it works for you. Check out the video as the beautiful Jasmine demonstrates how she uses black tea on her own locs.

I just use a little olive oil, coconut oil, and a tad of water, and put it in a spray bottle… I see very little to no shedding.
