Having healthy beautiful hair is at the top of the list for most people, and a lot of them are finding ayurvedic remedies to be quite powerful. If you’re looking for a way to push aside chemical products, then ayurveda is most definitely a great alternative.
Whether you’re trying to grow your hair long, restore its health or just maintain a beautiful mane, natural ingredients are key.
Unlike with store-bought chemical treatments, you don’t have to worry about potential side effects. Nature is my go-to grocery store, but since I can’t find these ingredients in my backyard, I turn to health stores and Indian shops that sell them. If you’re planning to do the same thing, here’s a shopping list you can use.
This is one of my favorite ingredients, not only for my hair, but my body as well. I like to add this powder to my smoothies.
I find that focusing on the inside and outside at once is the best for my hair. Indian gooseberry, also known as amla* or amalaki, can be used in a variety of ways. My favorite way to use it is as a shampoo, which can be created as a tea rinse, added to a soap bar or used as a paste.
Kehraj
This herb, also known as Eclipta Alba or False Daisy, is very popular throughout Thailand, China, Brazil and India. It offers a variety of benefits for your hair, including promotion of growth and prevention of hair loss.
It is packed with flavanoids, saponins, glycosides, alkaloids and so on, which all aid in hair growth. It helps increase your hair length by inducing the anage phase within your hair follicle when it’s at the telogen stage, which is when the follicles are no longer growing.
The flowers and leaves of this plant are used as a hair conditioner, which help to promote hair growth and combat hair fall issues. You simply boil the leaves and use the solution to rinse your hair. It also makes your hair silky and smooth. I like to add hibiscus* to my herbal shampoos with amla* and shikakai*.
Spiked Ginger* Lily Oil
The oil from the rhizomes of this plant is extracted and distilled, then used for promoting hair growth. It’s filled with antioxidants and has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Surely, you’re familiar with this herb, which works very well for treating alopecia and strengthening the hair, so that it can grow. It also softens and nourishes your hair.
Rosemary* can be purchased as an essential oil and added to your tea rinses, shampoos and conditioning treatments. It will help to improve circulation in your scalp and it also restores hair shafts.
