I never really wore wigs until earlier this year, even though I’ve been natural for quite a few years. I always felt like they didn’t look right on me, until one day I was late for work and I had literally no choice but to throw on a straight wig* that I had in my closet from Halloween.
I put a headband* on, because the part looked too unnatural for me. Ever since then, I did some research, learned how to pluck the part, and have spent an embarrassing amount of money on wigs! However, as of late, I’ve started to be a bit more resourceful, and now even though my wig collection has almost doubled, I am able to do it on a budget, and here’s how:
1. Buy Synthetic or Blends
The first wig that I wore was a synthetic wig*. It cost me less than 20 bucks, and looked just like human hair. Even though I have stepped my wig game up, I still buy synthetic wigs. Often times, you can find great looking synthetic or blend (human and synthetic hair) wigs* online for 12 or 15 bucks, and free shipping!
2. Coupon Codes
If you’re dying to have a human hair wig, then I suggest after you do your research on which one and which company to buy from, be patient and wait for a coupon code. Many times during anniversary sales, or just random Tuesday’s companies will have a sale on their wigs and that is the time to buy. Why not save some extra money on something you were going to buy anyway?
3. Buy Used
I was a bit leary of buying a used wig, but after I bought my first one, I found out that the transaction and whole process was seamless, and the wig was in great quality! Of course, you have to make sure you’re buying from a reputable person, but it definitely is the route to go if you want a high quality wig, but don’t want to pay full price for one.
