Like every year, summer seems to have left us way too soon. I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but New York is definitely starting to see the beginnings of fall.
For many of us, that means back to school, work, and all of the other time consuming activities that make up life. We also have weather changes to think about, and what that means for our hair.
If you’re like me, then you’ll probably just want to protective style so your hair can be out of the way and taken care of. But with all of the different protective styles out there, which one should you choose? Answer these questions and find out below!
1. When it comes to styling…
- You want flexibility with styling, and hair that is straight/ mimics your own hair
- You’re okay with creating alternative styling options
- You just want to get up and go; you don’t want to spend too much time on your hair in the morning
2. When it comes to how much hair you have out…
- You want leave out, or to be able to have your hair free easily
- You want ALL of your hair protected and tucked away
- You want most if not all of your hair away, but you still want to be able to see it
3. When it comes to maintenance…
- You want easy access to your scalp/strands for easy cleansing
- You’re okay with doing your minimum wash & condition regimen but having to carefully wash your hair
- You want to leave your hair alone for one to two weeks, then take it out to fully wash and deep condition
If you chose mostly 1s, you should get a weave or wig* this fall! There are a variety of hair options, from synthetic and colored to extensions* that match curly hair.
You can switch up your look almost every day with different wigs*, or you can get a weave installed (by a professional!) that you can play around with for anywhere between a month and longer.
The best part is that your hair will be braided underneath the weave, and your scalp will be easily accessible from a wig*.
If you chose mostly 2s, you should get braids, twists, or even faux locs. They can take a few hours to get put in, but with proper maintenance, they can look amazing for months!
You can get them in a variety of lengths and thickness, it’s really up to you. To maintain, simply mix some water and cleanser/conditioner and apply it to your scalp. Massage it in and follow up with some clean water.
If you chose mostly 3s, an updo is the right style for you! There are so many styles you can try, with extension hair or with your own. Do cornrows or flat twists if you want to keep your own hair down and protected.
Keep the style neat by wearing a satin scarf or sleeping on a satin pillowcase*. Wear it for a few weeks, then take it out and thoroughly wash your hair to restore all of the moisture.
So which protective style are you thinking about? Which one is your favorite?
