I noticed this style a while back, during the NYFW frenzy. While I honestly thought it was weird, the more I looked at it, the more I really liked it. The textured bob just means a regular bob that is created from hair with texture or natural hair. The style was created by Ursula Stephens, who was Rihanna’s previous hair stylist.
Even though the style was created for a Spring 2015 collection, we think it would be an awesome style to try during the fall as well. Fall is probably the best season to create a style that requires little to no frizz anyway, which is perfect for this kind of style.
Foundation
Start out with clean hair, and prep it using braids for a Braid Out. A Braid Out is the best base to start with, because it gives the hair texture, and stretches it as well. If you need more stretch, feel free to do your stretching techniques that work best, but don’t stretch it out too much.
Here is how you do it:
1. Start with the cornrow
Part your hair down the middle, then create a cornrow following the part down the center of the bob. Make sure the cornrow is slightly thin, it shouldn’t over power the style, but should be distinctly there, if that makes sense.
2. Smooth the sides
You want to smooth your hair down, and tuck the ends under to create the bob. This is a lot easier to do than it is to describe, but imagine a bob and pin and tuck your hair to fit what it is that you imagine.
3. Tug and pull to create shape
Your hair might end up tucked under pretty tight, so to make the faux bob look real, you need to pull the hair out but not too far that you loosen your tucked ends. The model pictured above had the top layers of her hair crimped with a crimping iron* to give the textured look. But with natural hair, that texture is built in.
That’s it – would you try it?
