Transitioning to natural hair isn’t always easy as pie as many claim especially when you have decided to keep your relaxed hair for as long as you can stand without doing a ‘big Chop’. When transitioning there are many options out there that can be used to blend the two textures that will not only protect the hair from breakage but help keeping the process simple.
Most transtioners may feel tempted to use heat as a crucial part of their regimen which is often frowned upon, but what if you did use heat what precautions can you take that will protect your hair from heat damage. Here are a few suggestions you can use if you decide to use heat to blend your hair during your transition period.
1. Moisturize and ‘protein treat’ your hair often: The point of demarcation where the relaxed hair and your natural hair meet is the weakest spot on your hair strand. Extra special care should be taken to ensure that your hair is strong and can withstand heat styling. One of the most important strengthening components is protein, the building block of the hair strand. Adding protein to your regimen not only will protect the hair from breakage but it conditions the hair as well.
Now with any protein regimen, there is almost always a need for moisture. Adding moisture to your hair balances the effect of protein that can be drying if used too much. #Tip: Deep condition your hair weekly during and after your transition, add a protein element to your deep conditioning* routine every two weeks or every week if you can stand it. This can be an egg, Greek yogurt or a protein conditioner with moisturizing agents. When using eggs or yogurt, add some honey* and oil to help with the moisture factor! Your hair will be shiny moisturized and strong!

I find it odd that a lot people tell us our hair is weak when it’s curly. My hair is strong and healthy and thick wether it’s relaxed or natural.
