Many of us like to throw words around like “Summer Regimen” and “Winter regimen” as if our hair has suddenly morphed into something different other than basic protein with a bit of curly attitude. Even here on BHI if you hit the search bar and type in Winter regimen, you are bound to find one tailored to the coldest days of the year.
If you do the same thing for Summer we have something to suit that need as well. Some persons like having a plan for the seasons, though to me in some ways it makes things seem a bit more anal retentive yet less confusing because you know just what to do when.
These days I even see regimens for Spring and I can’t help but think, ‘umm that’s a bit extra!’ Isn’t it? The truth is the only thing that changes for each season might be how you style your hair.
During the Winter you might decide to use more heat and do more structured sets so you do not have ‘wet’ hair all the time. During the Summer you may decide to keep your hair organically curly and free with more wash and go’s and curly pony tails.
If I were to be super honest I have to add that you might switch your products around by using less heavy and oily stuff during the summer saving those things for brutally cold days.
The thing is, the core of what you do in your regimen should never change so the idea of a Summer, Winter, Spring regimen can be virtually forgotten once you find your secret sauce.
Your secret sauce is what keeps your hair growing and what helps you to retain length the most. I am sure you have no intention of stopping any one of those things regardless of what mother nature is doing so some things never change.
Do you still deep condition?
Of course you do, you deep condition because it helps your strands retain moisture and stay strong. You deep condition every week for every season because the practice is good for your hair.
Do you protective style?
Protective styling will be a part of any regimen geared towards retaining length regardless of what season it is. Buns, braids, twists or just low manipulation styling are all great all year long and for some of us are the very heart of our over all regimen.
How often do you use protein?
Using protein weekly/bi-weekly or monthly does not stop because the sun is blazing outside. It also doesn’t stop when there is a blizzard either. Hair is predominantly protein so using it as often as your hair needs it is what determines how your regimen should look.
