Moisture is a key ingredient to hair health. Water is the leading way to add moisture to pretty much anything. I’m sure we’ve all heard this a TON of times.
Even so, we may sometimes limit ourselves to how we take in water, and this blocks us from truly benefitting from it. If you’ve been noticing that your hair is dry, dull, brittle, or just not retaining length, that can be because you haven’t been adding enough moisture.
Below are five tips to help you add more water into your every day life to have the healthiest hair possible.
Drinking
This may be obvious, but good health starts from within. The fact is, if you aren’t drinking enough water then your hair just isn’t going to grow as much as it can, plain and simple.
It’s recommended that we drink at least eight glasses of water a day. If you’re not really a water drinker, I suggest downloading an app to help you keep on track daily.
If you have an iPhone, I recommend the Waterlogged app. You can input your weight and it will tell you the amount of water you should drink. You can also get reminders throughout the day.
If you want to go the extra mile, try out fruit infused water – it gives your water a little extra taste and makes it easier to get in those eight glasses.
Grab your favorite fruit (strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, kiwi, etc) and add them to a pitcher of water. Place it in the fridge for at least an hour; the longer it sits, the more flavor you’ll taste.
Washing
Again, this is probably self explanatory. We should all know that we have to wash our hair. Depending on your lifestyle and hair type, you may have a certain number of times that you wash your hair a week.
Whether washing or co washing, adding water to your hair will definitely help you bring back lifeless curls and old hairstyles. I try to wash my hair twice a week, once with shampoo and again with a cleansing conditioner.
When washing, make sure you don’t use a product that will strip your hair of its natural oils*. Your hair shouldn’t feel dried out or stringy while you’re still in the shower. Use a moisturizing shampoo or black soap to cleanse your hair without drying it out.
