Cam'el Giftedhands Jones says
Don’t be touching those chemicals with NO GLOVES ON!!!!!
Gina Rivera says
It’s okay , It does not burn nor does it irritate the skin.
Amber Netasha says
but what exactly is Japanese straightening anyway?
Amber Netasha says
Ohhhhh ok interesting. I always thought they had naturally straight hair like that.
Ariane Smiley says
the chemical she put on to straighten the hair is a “RELAXER” call “ammonium thioglycolate” or THIO for short it is the relaxer you use to straighten the hair for a Soft Curl Perm aka Jherri Curl!
Amber Netasha says
Oh I see. That’s crazy. Learn something new everyday.
Gloria Egbunike says
As soon as i saw her detangling from the top down that was it✋
Ariane Smiley says
Girl RIGHT!!! Detangle from the ends UP every professional knows that!! I would be the one sitting there with her snatching out my hair like that !!
Gina Rivera says
That was just to prove to you guys that I was able to, with no breakage. Thats why I combed this way and why I use a rat tail comb.
Leila Payton says
I watched the video and It’s nice but to each his own.
Gina Rivera says
Thank you. You should watch My Gina Curl Videos as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQivKdJJpyM
Britt'Lee Jordan says
She did a overall great job !
Gina Rivera says
Thank You , Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQivKdJJpyM and learn about My Gina Curl
Britt'Lee Jordan says
I’m looking at the end result & her explaining the health of there hair .
Shamilah Patterson says
She said if you do weaves all day then I don’t know lmao
Evelyn Coleman says
You can’t let everybody touch your head……that’s all I’m saying.
Grabiella Lucas says
I personally didn’t like it. But everyone should What’s best for them.
Gina Rivera says
Grabiella, you might like my other technique
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQivKdJJpyM
Monic Morgan says
A lot of heat used…. What if she goes swimming. How would the hair respond to the chemicals?
Tinisha Coleman Bean says
It stays straight just like a regular relaxer
Monic Morgan says
Oh ok.
Maybell Lena Killion says
Just STOP the madness! So annoying, can people just use a damn flat iron and call it a day? Too much, the most! Ugh
Lisa Rothmiller says
First mistake was detangling from the root. Next, she put so much heat on her hair, in the long run, I’m sure she’ll have extensive heat damage. The client could’ve gotten the same (if not better) outcome with a wash, blow dry and flat iron.
Elizabeth Mendez says
When you get this Japanese straightener is the ultimate hair straightener.. The only style you can wear with this is straight styles.. No curls or nothing!
Gina Rivera says
I’m sorry, but that’s not true. You can twist set , rod set, you can use a curling iron, rollers…. You can absolutly get body and bounce.
Thraetha Clay says
My opinions… How is a non- black person going to tell blacks how to perm the do’s and don’ts… I think the majority of us have been getting our hair permed and home and we already know that we can not put perm over already permed hair!!!
But I like the end results.. To much heat for my hair!!
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Why is it always about race ? It’s about knowledge on using chemicals . Not everyone knows the the rules on getting or giving a relaxer . Some don’t even read the directions. Just because we’ve been getting relaxers at home since forever ago that don’t mean our moms did it right .
Thraetha Clay says
You took to a race level!!!
Tell me what other race uses LYE IN there hair.. There perms are way different than the ones that are used on our hair!!
A relaxer for African-American hair, it is way too harsh for Caucasian hair it will react to the maintamer and will melt your hair right off. Relaxers for Caucasian hair are perm solutions that you comb through.
Big difference between PERM AND RELAXER!!
That’s what wrong with people like you!!!! No one can tell you about your hair unless they have your texture of hair that’s like me telling someone about there relationships and I don’t have one!! And if they don’t read directions right! That is what they get!!! I have no need for a perm nor do my kids!!! And if you read the FIRST 2 words of what I SAID…
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Why is it always about race !
Thraetha Clay says
A white person can not tell most people of out ethnicity how to take care of our hair!!! Putting Al that heat on her hair like she did.. Most of us will be BALD!!!
Britt'Lee Jordan says
That’s why you examine the hairs health before you do ANYTHING to it! It’s not about race ! Ppl are so small minded . When i went to cosmetology school we learned how to care for EVERY texture I didn’t just learn how to do do black ppl hair smh . So what your telling me is I can’t tell a white lady how to care for her hair and what products are good for her hair type and issues ?
Camille Renee Edwards says
It doesn’t have anything to do with race, a white person can tell an ethnic person what they could do if they’ve been trained & educated soooo yeah. I’d believe them before any ole black Jane doe !
Camille Renee Edwards says
A black person told me it’s okay to hot comb relaxed hair so yeah
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Thank you !
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Just because your black doesn’t mean you know wth your doing lol
Keia Love says
I think the point that was trying to be made was that while some schools do teach all hair textures a lot of them don’t. And that even though she is trained it has always been A BIG NO NO to comb threw textured hair at the root. That is not to discredit her profession because her client was clearly very comfortable with it. Although I do think that it doesn’t matter how healthy your hair is high degrees of heat are damaging to it. But then again I might be biased being that I’m natural and I love my curly locks. You are right though a lot of black salons do more damage to black women’s hair and than anything. So it really doesn’t matter black, white or purple if you have the proper training then it shouldn’t matter. Sorry for the rant
Britt'Lee Jordan says
That’s why u test the curling iron/flat iron on a neck strip to make sure it’s not to high. That’s true you should come from the ends to the root but that’s any texture . As long as she doesn’t frequently flatiron her hair she is fine . It’s about how you care for you hair as well after a chemical service or putting heat into it . What we can’t see in this video is how her hair was before she went to the stylist, the consultation, or products she recommends, or even how she tells her to care for it after.
Tina Waters says
Because all races are different in many ways. I wouldn’t walk into a salon that does 100% Caucasian hair expecting them to do mine correctly. BECAUSE WE HAVE DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES.
Britt'Lee Jordan says
That’s why you go to someone with experience in doing textured hair !
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Who goes to a stylist who doesn’t have experience in a certain area . I mean really lol . I’m not going to go to someone who’s only done 3 sew ins .
Leta Tyrell says
It does help to have personal experience with the hair ur working with. And black people thinking we have to alter our hair and looks to look more like others is everything thing about race !
Leo B Venzen says
Because its not African…..our hair is not like Japanese hair!!!
Tiesha Marie Boyd says
It’s actually very similar to a Brazilian blowout from what I’ve seen …& I know plenty of African American women get that done
Monique Mahan says
No thank you embrace curls
Andrea Tre says
If it looks like creamy crack, and smells like creamy crack…..
Britt'Lee Jordan says
No one ever looks at the good in things .
Paul Bayley says
Are black women STILL altering the natural texture of their hair with chemicals ????!!!!
Wow ….. how sad.
Lakiasha Wilson says
Yes, it’s been instilled since slavery, not everyone can learn to love their natural hair. A shame, but yes.
Tina Waters says
A lot of us never had a choice. Our moms made that choice when we were children. As adults some of us just don’t know how to manage our natural hair because we’ve never seen it.
Things are changing and hopefully this change will continue.
Manisha Franklin says
Or do love or natural hair just don’t have the time to maintain it.
Cindy Cadet-Murphy says
I use makeup doesn’t mean I hate my face
Paul Bayley says
But your face is not permanently altered, that analogy makes NO SENSE .
Lora Pearson says
If a woman wants to relax her hair then so what. It’s her hair. To each is own.
Jocelind Belmar says
I love my relaxed hair. It’s healthy, long and strong. Im happy with it and other women who like healthy relaxed hair shld feel th same without pressure fr “holier than thou” naturalists lol
Sandra Brooks says
Black women stop going to those other races to get ur hair done. You are not Brazilian, Japanese, or Indian. Your hair cannot and will not be like those people. Except your hair for what it is, Black hair.
Blaque Diamondz says
All black hair is not the same
Britt'Lee Jordan says
Small minded ppl. Ignorance at its greatest.
Renisha Anderson says
You sound stupid as hell
Sandra Brooks says
Glad u feel that way, and all black people don’t have the same kind of hair. If you don’t understand the comment made. Scroll down morons
Chanèl Johnson says
I understand what you are saying Sandra ! You are making a great point . Women need to appreciate what the heck they were born with .
Felicia Hamilton says
Sweet heart I am black. A product of irish, european, Blackfoot Indian, Cherokee Indian, and African.
I an d no other black person is 100% African! Note Africans do not consider themselves black!
Sandra Brooks says
Let me dumb it down for you. African descendants with black African like hair, ok. Bye felicia
Michelle Shields says
I understand what you mean, I have gotten charged more and hair pulled all out because of another race not knowing what to do with my hair.. not all are bad but they made me decide to do it my self
Sandra Brooks says
Every human being on this planet have African blood. So don’t try to school me on nothing. You’ll lose that battle. Felicia
Taylor Elonne Rose says
None of the “races” you named are even races their nationalities and ethnicities.
Cindy Cadet-Murphy says
Being black or African American doesn’t mean we have the Same hair type . I’m 4c my daughter is A
Cindy Cadet-Murphy says
Hell we don’t even have the same complexion
Nicole Hartley says
There are people out there that are NOT Black that can do a black womans hair just as good.. Just like there are black woman that can do asian hair. Just because somebody goes to an asian or white person to get they’re hair done doesn’t mean their in denial
Tia Boo says
Heck theres some black stylists that dnt even know how to do hair lol , but i get your point !
Taylor Elonne Rose says
I got the point she was trying to make but she’s wrong. Race doesn’t make you qualified or unqualified to do someone’s hair.
Jaelyn Proctor says
A woman I grew up with who happens to be Samoan is a stylist who specializes in black hair. She’s actually the one who got me started on my hair journey and my hair hasn’t been this healthy since I was in middle school.
Mary K Harkins says
I had something like thisbdone on my transitional hair $200 later my hair was jacked. I washed it out. It cause my hair to be every dry and it broke off badly. Never again
Jessica Marie says
The way she was coming her wet hair I was like
Crystal Thomas says
This is literally a perm (not a relaxee – a real perm) without the rods. Yaya has hip length hair and does this straightening method. It is NOT a blowout. It is permanent.
http://pocahontas-secrets.blogspot.com/2015/03/length-check-nov-2014.html?m=1
TeE' MoNae says
I guess the end result was what she was looking for but I’m pretty sure this like every other chemical will cause damage.. On top of she put on the chemical, flat iron, blow dryed, the flat iron..
VJ RLester says
Still a chemical. Stay away from it and the Brazilian blowout is the worse thing u can put on your hair.
Mariah S. Romero says
She detangled from the top, she held the blow dryer in tha same spot which can cause damage and breakage and then multiple passes with a flat iron… >.> This is simply a relaxer. Nothing new. Nothing special.
Lisa Harris says
She needs to try E’tae hair products. It’s natural and lasts just as long.
Athena BlueGreen says
It’s her hair so she do as she chooses.
Jackie Rogers says
Well people always talking about being natural which is not a bad thing i understand about the chemicals but what about the chemicals in makeup and all the other stuff we use i think moderation is the key to everything
Valeska Maurice says
Based on personal experiences it’s Worse than usual relaxer
Camille Renee Edwards says
She can give advice all day even if she was orange and educated properly. Our race can be so ignorant and closed minded … But want everybody to be open & welcoming to us
Valeska Maurice says
At least not for black women hair texture
Camille Renee Edwards says
& yes, we still do chemicals! My Natural wasn’t may cup of tea& no one can make me think it should be
Brittney Latoy Urzc says
Japanese people have extremely thick hair. I don’t know why we are so closed minded and hate every race or have an issue with a race doing our hair when creation began in Africa.how do you have an issue with your own creation your own people to get technical.
Camille Renee Edwards says
& if we were as educated as we act we’d know that their hair is done of the coarsest strands too. I met s girl whose hair was just as kinky as mine ! Hair is hair. We’re all capable of being born with a type… Our gene pools just usually favor a specific one.
Vedejah Scroggins says
They didn’t tell enough about it. I get a keratin blow out every few months. Nonpermanent high powered conditioning treatment I can wear it natural or straightened whatever I want also it’s no chemicals. This Japanese thing said nothing. Is it permanent? How long does it last? Since it can’t be placed on the scalp is it chemical? I don’t know Id have to seriously look into it to even consider.
Gabrielle Ivie says
Don’t fall for his sorry ass again Mr.relaxer that is
Ariane Smiley says
Ok FIRST OF ALL “ROOTS” are under the scalp what she is referring to is call “new growth or REGROWTH” 2nd EVERY Professional knows to detangle from the ends UP. 3rd the chemical she put on to straighten the hair is a “RELAXER” call “ammonium thioglycolate” or THIO for short it is the relaxer you use to straighten the hair for a Soft Curl Perm aka Jherri Curl! I hate when company’s bamboozle consumers leaving them to believe this technique is a NEW product.
Shanygne Santana Broome says
Honestly my mums friend has done this for years & shes fully black. So?
Diane Bailey says
It’s still a chemical relaxer …. You can change the name all you want but it’s still a chemical that alters your hair
Amanda Thomas says
First she was combing that wet hair a little too rough for me…….so you wash it, dry it , relax it, rewash & dry it. Then flat iron. Way too much. I will just stick to the regular way.
Christina Clark says
Not for me….
Shaniqua Shon Pope says
How about a good ceramic flat iron!!! I’ve been natural for 6 years. My sisters stop spending money on the chemicals and watch how healthy and long your hair will be.
Avila Delinda says
To many procedures to get the end results eventually there will be a lot of wear and tear on the hair but I will give it up to the stylist for being a professional and knowing how to work with all hair types this is very rare to see.
Rochelle T. Dalley says
Good for her if that’s what she liked. She looked happy at the end. As for me, I’ll keep my kinks.
Avila Delinda says
It’s not about the race of a person it’s about experience and being educated with different hair types, just because a stylist is black does not make them more qualified.
Esther Williams Jordan says
No thanks!
Felicia Hamilton says
What kills me is, when people throw the race card in as if, Black people are 1 race.
Last I checked my great grandmother was Irish, Native American(Cherokee) and Black. My Great Grandfather was a mulatto first generation black/white mix. And that’s just oneside of me. The other is just as mixed.
So to say you’re not this and that… really?!
Madysen Taylor says
This video is a more accurate depiction of the process https://www.facebook.com/tkals13/posts/10153191430942235
Shonette Greene says
Waaaay too much heat being used. I’ll pass!
Bridgett Nesby says
If thats what she likes then I say hey do you boo
Elise Cromwell says
But isn’t it more dangerous than a perm? She kept saying it either way I truly hate bone straight hair so I don’t see that mess in my future
Juju Patrick says
It’s always about race when it comes to hair because we have completely different textures!! Go to someone black because at the end of the day our hair is completely different
Sherry VanHorn says
Worst……Japanese straifhting is so old school….. also relaxers don’t mess up your hair….people not taking care of their hair after having a chemical service is what damages the hair……….sodium hyroxe is in food and products you use on your skin …..like lotions…….read your product ingredients. I’M A STYLIST.
Jocelind Belmar says
THANK YOU
Chevy Genous says
Lotion doesn’t burn your skin though.
Sherry VanHorn says
If you’re keeping it in to the point where your skin is burning…..then you are obviously doing it yourself …..when use correctly by professinals your scalp should not burn. That’s why hairstylists go to cosmetology school. If you leave hot peppers long enough on your skin it will cause damage to the skin as well. Also coloring the hair is a chemical service and can burn the skin and cause damage to the hair. That’s why I send all my clients home with products to maintain the health of the hair. Truth be told a lot of people don’t invest in good hair care products to keep their hair healthy and then blame the relaxer. That’s like a fat person blaming being fat on the burger……its not the burgers fault….lol. JUST SAYING……TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR HAIR PEOPLE AND STOP PLAYING HAIRDRESSERS AT HOME AND LEAVE IT UP TO THE PROFESSIONALS. THOSE CHEMICALS ARE FOR SALON USE ONLY……DONE BY PROFFESSIONALS!!!!!
Tina Waters says
It is NOT for ethnic hair.
Desiree Wallace says
Dont talk down on it unless you’ve had it. My hair has been relaxed, natural and Japanese straightened. The video doesn’t do any justice in how it works for your hair. When you go somewhere experienced they dont rake through your hair like that. My Japanese straightened hair, despite it being a chemical, was indeed stronger, thicker and healthier than my relaxed hair was at its best. I could write a book on how amazing Japanese straightening is.
Don’t knock something until you try it, and even if you don’t want to don’t insult the people who do. Being natural doesn’t make you better than anyone. It’s just hair, don’t take it so seriously. What you do with your hair is no different than how you choose to dress.
Beverley Mclaren says
Check out Sisterlocks people … Embrace the Natural You
Jelann LtRipley Mitchner says
Haven’t had a relaxed since 2009 & looking @ this pic & reading the horror stories, glad I didn’t put anymore in my hair! (pls dont start in on me b/c I choose 2 wear lace front & etc) keeps my real hair natural chemical free professionally taken care of
Gaby Moviefan says
To much heat for my taste! Plus what if you have thin hair ..,,
Aegina Beoranje Manson says
so so tempting
janielle Vining says
I dont like or trust it. Yes its a lifestyle just like getting a relaxer every 8 weeks use to be. A simple silk wrap or wash and flat iron would have given her the same effect. Too much heat it bad for hair not just black hair. Less heat, no chemicals = healthy hair
Thari Mccoy says
Open your eyes people…they are trying to capitalize off of us…we as black women are so mesmerized by beauty…that we will compromise……to make others rich….stick with someone who actually cares about your hair and not your money….wake up
Christina Sheree Epps says
Whatever floats her boat but personally I feel like it was way too much heat. And the washing process was a Little excessive !
MEshell Green says
Black women REALIZE when someone is trying to capitalize off from you. You made a lot of people rich Koreans, Chinese, now Japanese. Lol wake up when are you going to stop wanting European hair. Hey to each there own.
MEshell Green says
Backwards video. Lol and she was untangling the hair with a small tooth comb not a wide tooth. She also use too different heats on the hair NOTICE. Lol.
Debra Thompkins says
I can honestly say that sometimes people outside of your race take the time to do your hair properly. Te stylist that caused me to go natural because she pulled and tugged on my hair was a black woman professionally licensed (Know it all) Treated me like I did not know myself or my hair. Had to big chop after her damage. One of the best hair dressers I had was an older Korean woman. Someone recommended her and I was looking for a black woman in the salon. I had my friend take me back and it was a Korean woman. She was the first and only woman I trusted to highlight and color my hair she did such a good job.
MEshell Green says
I think it’s about getting your money African Americans money since a lot of women went natural. They seem to be trying to keep the half that did not yet or possibly convert the naturals to this type of perming notice she stated look at the roots stressing it’s natural compared to permed ends.
Joeneyce Cunningham says
Tooooooo much work! Imagine if she had a whole lot of hair. She would’ve been in that chair forever! Sheeesh!
Kia Eunice says
Can you and color to this product
Cant Giveup says
I do hair. I have no race or preference on whose hair I do. In school you learn hair not race. Anyone with a license and the experience can do all textures.
Jocelind Belmar says
Omg too much heat. When I relax my hair, for th next 3-4 weeks heat is OFF LIMITS in any way. Ur hair is too weak fr th processor! Omg no way way too much way too soon…healthy hair is th goal, not a temporary cute look
Ricketta Savage says
SMH ridiculous.
Charles Zeno says
Lol yall are so confused and easily led to the next could it be that u just don’t like who u are?
Yolland Monique Dickerson says
Toooooooo much heat…….
Sharon Roach says
Worse
Barbara Hughes says
Worse. Too much room for error and hair loss, even for professionals.
Heather Zuberbier says
Looks great to me!
Leo B Venzen says
Japanese?
Gracie Crybaby Hart says
I can’t believe some of the comments I see in here, ya’ll watched the video and I think only seen the color of each of the persons skin. The customer herself is saying this is what she wants, the stylist is experienced in the procedure she is doing and all ya’ll can think about is race. How about the fact that her is gorgeous, healthy with no breakage, it looks full and she has some length. I have natural hair, but just like a religion I’m not going to force my hair on everyone else.
Danny Fenton says
My sister in law is white and she does a great job with my natural hair and i use protective styles like sew ins and braids because i work two jobs amd school full time and need to keep it braided so it will stay healthy and full but saying that by not using a black stylist i wanna see my hair like that or hate myself is a pure example of how far back we have set ourselves. Im a progressive and im sick of race being an underlying argument. Im just sick and over it.
BTSsuga says
I have 4c hair. I’m wondering if someone, who is black(who has actually tried this) can tell me if they are happy with the results? How long have you had japanese straightened hair? I’m natural, and went this route primarily because while relaxers never broke my hair, they burned my scalp. No matter what brand I tried, my roots were never straight unless the relaxer was kept on for 20min, which I couldn’t tolerate.
