You must admit crochet braids has to be one of the hottest protective styles out there. It has been around for a minute, but with the variety of styles that we have seen on Instagram the trend remains hot as heck. If you are curious about the style and want to learn how to do it, keep reading.
So what do you need?
A latch hook — find this at any local beauty supply store
Your choice of hair – Marley hair is pretty common
Rods, rollers or curl formers
Hot water for your curls if you want curls
Products – oil, leave-in conditioner* and maybe a spray for shine
Step 1
Make sure you start out on clean moisturized hair and then put in your corn rows. On the image below I found on Pinterest, you will notice 3 braid patterns to choose from depending on the style you want and the kind of hair you are putting in.
Step 2
Using a crochet or braid needle, you need to lace the hair through the corn row making sure each small section is close enough to each other for a flawless look.
Step 3
Knot the hair in order to attach it to your cornrow. The chic natural does an amazing tutorial explaining how to do the braids check it out here:
Once you are done with the style the take down is easy, but you have to know how to do it. Watch this takedown tutorial if you are not sure how to take yours down safely:
What I love about the style
Oh so versatile and easy to do especially if you want a quick protective style for a short period of time.
What I hate about the style
Depending on the hair you pick, the hair can get frizzy fast and start to look a little bit ‘ratty’. The key here is to take down the style before you start to look crazy.
