Girl in the bathroom on camera with the high pitched Valley girl accent: Ok now girls its time to add the gel to my glorious tresses, I swear, all you need is a dime size amount! not even alot, seeeee! … She takes a drop of gel, literally a drop, puts it in the palm of her hand and smooshes up to the camera, so darn close, you could damn near tell her future.
rake 1, rake 2, rake 3, “all done!” she shrieks, “That wasn’t bad right? All you have to do now is air dry and your curls will pop pop pop just like mine, or you can use a diffuser* to ge….” Turns off YouTube and goes to get a bowl of ice cream
YA! Ok sweetie that’s all well and good for you but that doesn’t work for all of us and that dime size need to be at least a buck twenty ($120.00) for our strands to even give that gel any consideration.
The thing is not all hair is created equal and of course that is the beauty of natural hair. If you have kinky* type 4 hair you might need some gel that has a little meat to it, and you might need a big tub of it because you might just use alot to get the look you want.
There are a number of reasons you might choose to define your curls with gel if you are type 4 or any other type for that matter. The first reason is gel encourages clumping and your hair is stronger the more the strands clump together. Two you might want to define your curl pattern, whatever that might be so that your look is uniformed and thirdly gel is great for edge control and making your styles look sleek and laid.
Personally I am all about a good list so we came up with a list of the best curl popping gels for Kinky* type 4 hair:
Well there you have it, some of the best curl popping gels you will ever get your hands on, so print this out take it to your local beauty supply and get one, or two or three!
