1. Create the updo with a donut.
2. Secure the bun with some plain bobby pins* or decorative ones for a bit of sparkle.
3. Brush everything into place with a soft boar bristle brush.
4. Use some edge cream to smooth any flyways.
5. Use some shine serum to add a glossy finish to your look.

What is that donut made of BlackHairInformation.com? I saw one in store but it looked dangerous to my hair.

It works great.

You can just make one from a black sock. Just cut the toe part off and roll it up like a donut. I wear one all the time since I am in the army.

They are made out of some mesh material but I cover mine with satin before using.
Tangerine Washington says
The mesh ones are better for your hair than the sponge ones. Up close it looks like a very coarse ballerina tutu fabric. I sometimes take a little braid hair and wrap around mine before I put it in, especially when I am growing my hair out from a cut and it is long enough but I just want to be sure the donut is covered. I also only use 3 hairpins, because I wrap my bun in an invisible hairnet (wind the excess around the bun) before I put the pins in. Makes it less heavy but it still stays put. As another lady said, a sock is great too, and so is a pair of pantyhose (you need both legs rolled to make it big enough). For those with a unique haircolor, you can even crochet one to match-find a nice soft yarn and a pattern and go at it!

Ok, that’s like the one I saw. Covering with satin is good idea.
