More and more women are rocking that beautiful bald head look with no concern with critics or the normal criticism that may come with that choice.
Maybe it’s to do with the women wanting to go natural without having to transition so they choose to do an early ‘big chop’ and never have to deal with two hair textures.
However for some the level of negativity that comes with making such a bold move doesn’t make the decision easy and will require a little confidence when it comes to actually performing the act of shaving.
If you want to take the shaved head plunge here are a few tips that can be useful when rocking that style while waiting for your hair to grow out.
1. Keep the makeup light – It might be tempting to really add some layers to the face when rocking your bald ‘do’. But the truth is the lighter the makeup the more pronounced your natural features will be.
A bald head doesn’t have to necessarily equate to more make up; it might just mean, smile more!
2. Get girly – For a long time, a bald head was often associated with guys and sometimes that stigma still comes up every now and again. So if you want to rock it bald, then play up your other feminine assets.
Wear dresses, flirty skirts, accessories and don’t be afraid to show a little skin especially in the summer time. Got hips? Don’t hide them show that thing! No matter how you decide to do it, just make sure you are 100% comfortable with whatever you decide to wear.
3. Have confidence- Did you watch that famous episode of America’s Top Model with Tyra Banks and she had all the girls do a bald photo shoot. One of the most glamorous lessons from that shoot was the importance of confidence even when you do not have your crown, your hair.
The girls were absolutely stunning regardless of race, height, little head, big head they looked good and they knew it. There are so many things about you that are beautiful other than your hair and this is the time when you can look in the mirror and discover them all.
Your deep brown eyes, your cute nose, that thing your chin does, that one dimple on the left cheek. This is your time to showoff everything else!
4. Connect with your sisters and brothers that don’t have a choice – Sometimes going bald for some women is not all for fun, a lot of women going through chemotherapy, really don’t have a choice, they lose their hair all in the name of getting healthy again.
Because losing hair is often so sudden it may take a little time for the average patient to wrap their mind around not having their hair anymore.
As you rock your baldness and you look in the mirror think about the women that have the confidence to do it because they have to! And if nothing else motivates you to smile every time you see your shaved head then that certainly will.
Have you ever thought about just shaving your head, and if so how do you think you could pull off that style?

Vanessa says
I big chopped in Jan ’13 after growing locs for 20 years. I wore them hip length and after menopause changed my texture I needed to start over. I chose microbraids to “grow out” my hair. After 1 year and a re-braid with less than stellar hair, my hair fell out in chunks. I tried to save the hair I had left and grow some more, but after about a month of still looking like a plucked chicken, I could procrastinate no longer. My hair was 6 inches long in some places and 1/4 in others. I was wearing wigs anyway so on Saturday 5/18/14, I took it all off. It is sad and scary after having all the hair I wanted for a generation. To see my head as it is today brings tears, but at least I had a choice and didn’t lose it to health. My hair does grow fast, so I’m looking forward to this new journey and becoming intimately familiar with my hair again…..
Nakikke Wallace Johnson says
I rock a shaved head on the daily. I love it. I often big chop at least once a year. Just because you don’t have long flowing hair, it doesn’t mean that you are not healthy … it doesn’t mean that you are lazy … it just means that some prefer short hair or no hair at all. Everytime I think about growing my hair out I get a compliment and say nah ….
Irene Johnson says
I did and I feel empower. I did it for children with cancer. It’s just hair. No hair don’t care!

Alice Ebony Angel Kent says
I don’t think you need to get girly with it, if you are going to shave your head. I don’t like to wear dresses or skirts and I don’t feel I need to put one on because I cut all my hair off. I shave my hair off all the time and I have women and some men come up to me telling me that they love the look. Most men want me to grow it long and I have told them including my husband that I don’t wear my hair for them to like. I wear my hair the way I want and how I feel with the style. I also tell them if they want to see long hair, then feel free to grow their hair as long as they want it. I have wore my hair short since I was 13 and next month I will be 60 and men are still trying to tell me how I should wear it. In those years that I started cutting my hair off, I have grown it out 4 different times, but I always come back to my short cuts, because that is what I like. I just did another big chop 2 weeks ago so the hair you see on my post is gone. It is back down to my scalp again and hubby is not happy so he is growing his out. I don’t tell him how to wear his and I will not have him tell me how to wear my hair.
